Ha Ha, now I'll tell you the truth, That's the theory with grit, I've kept a blind youngster this year, I've only told one person and I'm not mentioning Andys name It has water in front all the time every thing else I feed and it will not touch grit, minerals fine, as you say, I'm sure it's the salt factor, but it has been a revelation to watch this youngster grow every feather and although I've had them for 60yrs. I think I've learned a lot this last year about them and myself

I think that is the thing Peter, it's ingested as a grinding agent and not passed through the system but thrown out when it has done its job and looks like sand

Just for interest this is one of my youngsters, fed as above, I let them out just after this as I do most days and Percy was amongst them and left empty handed, I think, shortly after I had a hen Gos chasing them that went on for some time, again I thought she left empty handed but when I shut up tonight I see I'm 2 missing

Never ceases to amaze me what people feed at moulting time, my main loft are on y/bird mix, small seed with no maize so I add maize, nothing in the water, I also have a loft permanently open with 40 birds that are fed poultry corn and water nothing else, I've tried them with a better mix and they wont touch it, they all look immaculate, I think we get sucked into thinking what we feed our birds makes them winners, I don't think so

They don't have height or weight limits on the breed so he'll be fine

Hi Mate, When you say you had a builder lined up for the block-work was that just a base, I know Scottish laws are different to the rest of us but I would have thought a timber built loft of those dimensions wouldn't have required full planning
