    Bad Press

Is this the same guy who operates in Cheltenham too and was on radio 2's Jeremy Vine programme saying much the same thing a couple of years ago? I was left with much the same impression as yourself in that he's only trying to scare people and drum up some business for himself. Ok ferals can be a problem but if we didn't leave so much stuff behind for them to eat they would soon look elsewhere. As for all the diseases they have some of the ones I've seen lately were much better looking than some seen put in a basket on a friday???!!!
  2. Afraid I cant give you an answer to that ,but can only tell you that we have had much more luck /success with birds from the west of Scotland than we ever have with ones from the east???!!!

  7. Been looking on there and noticed there is a lot of the medication used for the birds on sale from someone in Spain. Has anybody bought any from there and if so what is your opinion of the medicine you bought, was it worthwhile and would you hesitate in using them again? Thanks in advance, W.D.
  8. Aye thats the bugger did he emigrate to Fife Sapper?
  9. They must have been hand reared like you say, because these were anything but shy!
  10. There were some released a few years ago in the Forestry Commission land surrounding Limerigg, next to Slammanan, on the lanarkshire borders.I have family who live there and they said they were being fed at first to get them established, and watched over day and night. A couple of these moved down to our area and caused problems for a while, then they just seemed to move away. The first time I saw them I wondered what the hell they were. They didn't seem to hold much fear of humans, whether they were reared, or used to them I dont know, but they would circle around the loft whilst I was standing in front of it, no doubt attracted by seeing the birds in the aviary, at one time nearly landing on it, not nice for them!!!
  11. Been talking with my dad regarding Jim's sale, please bear in mind I dont know the man himself, and stand to be corrected as usual?! But here goes, Jim's birds go back to Aitken & Walker from Coalburn, down from their red hen, scored Rennes as a yearling and went fully pooled as a 2yr old and took its full share. She was from a hen from the late Hal Renwick, Stonehouse. This pair left quite a few handy doo's for A & W such as the TV hen which won the nom and TV from the Mid-week Continental Club which ran for a few years in the 70's. The base and of both these lofts were the late Wee Jocky Harrison's doos, from Coalburn. This man was quoted as being the best 600 mile Doo-man in Scotland, Bobby Carruthers words not mine.Which is maybe the reason why Jim's birds have excelled when the going got tough and ''nae bugger else hud wan'' If I'm wrong as I am about most things please put me right???!!!

  14. Hi Guys, Just wondering if anyone on here might be able to help me? A few years ago I was lucky enough to buy a pigeon box from WW2 that was used in aircraft during the war, at least that's what I was told. In the lid of the box there is a compartment for the materials used to send the messages etc.including a pad of paper, which has been written on at some time as you can see the imprint of a previous message on the top sheet of paper. What I would to know is, is there a way I can retrieve the information that has been written on the message from the imprint left underneath? I tried writing to my local police station but without any success. Any ideas please? Thanks for any advice, W.D.

got mine from shop this morning.
  18. To me Geo1234, the best ones are the guys who send their birds every week, whether they win or not,and dont moan about others, and help out at the club when they can, etc. These lads/lassies are the back bone of our game, and we all know them, they are in every club and fed in the uk,and with the way things are going in our sport at the moment we need more of them?!!!
  19. Thanks Ian, very much obliged.
  20. The belgian birds liberated from Limoges at 6-30 are doing 1400 m/m dont know how to convert to ypm but there's been nothing to hold them back on the continent, I just hope they have been early enough to miss the birds going north into France,Belgium and Holland and give the doos a chance. The Very Best of Luck Lads.

There are no instructions in the packet and everything else is in german, can anyone advise us how to use it and for how long please? the stockist said it does canker, hexamititis and resperatory but he couldn't offer any other advice?!!!
  24. What do you think stopped them? It was raining in birmingham during the afternoon, could this have been across the rest of the country too?

    Sparrow Hawk

By the sounds of things it looks like the hen hawks are getting ready to go to nest going by the the amount of strikes this week. My dad got hit this week too, maybe 30 birds out flying about and you can guess the one that got hit, the only one with 2 nat positions. Luckily one of the neighbours saw it happen and ran into someones front garden to chase the hawk away.He said it had another go as the bird struggled to get back to the loft just missing it as it went in the door. The hawk had been pecking at its eye and head, so its eye has been closed since then and swollen the size of a pea, doesn't know whether it will get over it but doing what he can using golden eye ointment as its all he can get his hands on, he has some Amoxicillin capsules for humans but scared to use them incase they are too strong. This is the second hit recently, the other bird wasn't so lucky.
