Email sent Dear Richard Please follow the attached link. http://natureversush...rike-images.php I am a pigeon fancier and I am distressed by the situation arising from my inability to protect my pigeons. I accept that birds of prey are a natural occurrence, but fail to understand why we are supporting and protecting them to the detriment of all else. There is a very strong lobby supporting these birds and I am sure that the RSPB is making a lot of money from there proliferation. I accept that some of this money is put towards their other work. I accept that these birds were attacked by several means in the past to almost the point of extinction. Hopefully we have moved on from then. The situation now is that these birds are encouraged into un-natural habitats to allow easy viewing thus increasing the revenue. The pretence is that by so doing, the feral pigeon will be kept under control. Would you stoop at 200 mph to attack a pigeon flitting from building to building or would you stoop after a pigeon flying in open space on its way home? Would you prefer to eat prime meat raised on the best of food and kept in the best of conditions or would you rather eat lean meat fed on scraps and kept in the poorest of conditions? I know the answer I would give and I am sure it is the same answer that the peregrine falcon gives when it decides which type of pigeon to attack. Be assured, Racing pigeons are targetted by these birds. The sparrowhawk is not much better. They may not have been encouraged in the same manner as the peregrine, but they have proflicated their numbers and entered more urban areas than would have been the norm and have also became a major nuisance in our gardens and sometimes within our pigeon lofts. Please, assist in this matter, even if it is only to remove the un-natural support these birds receive. Andrew Kyle
