  1. Welcome to the site.
  2. Used to be 2 Avranches, Rennes, Nantes and the YB National. Fed racing went to the coast, in fact I think the second Avranches may have been a Fed race. Lack of numbers and therefore cost precludes the Feds from achieving French races and even the coast, so it is time that the Feds carried out their duty of providing convoying for their member clubs to at least 200 miles. At that point, if finance precludes, they have to talk to each other and form Amalgamations or Combines to cover the races to the coast. The transport being unused could be continued in duty by convoying even more 200 mile type races with area liberations. At some point after this the National should organise its races and transport. The whole set-up should be organised National, Combine then Federation, thus becoming most effective and properly organised rather than thrown together. Fed racing used to provide education for both fanciers and pigeons. This education is now sadly lacking, thus a reason for fewer distance minded fanciers progressing through the ranks; it IS too difficult. If we adopted the combine system some of this education would return and more would be prepared to attempt the distance races.
  3. It marks the start of winter, but heralds the return of spring to come whence we begin yet again, breeding and racing. Be happier when they spring forward again in March.
  4. Good morning all.
  5. Misty start to the morning here in East Ayrshire.
  6. That is a valid point Davy. When the club was first formed it was predominantly west central Scotland. Having said that, the northern Federations still have their coast race, Hastings, so I presume you race up to that at Federation level. Never having raced over 240 miles yet, I presume it would be far better to 'blood' your pigeons to the coast at Federation or combine level before mixing them Nationally. At least they are all coming into a similar area at that level, whereas with the National they could end up anywhere. I also appreciate they shouldn't if they are good enough, but we all make mistakes at times, so why should pigeons be any different.
  7. With that sort of money in the bank, I think you are spot on Vinnie. My take on the SNFC was that its founders promoted distance races and pioneered them. Yes, nowadays there is a trend towards middle and sprint, but the SNFC aim should still be to promote the greatest distance achieveable.
  8. Well done all. Hope you have a great night.
  9. The programme posted on the thread included Peterborough. It was stated that this race would be substituted with the SNFC Inland national once it was known where this would be raced from. Thus the introduction of the SNFC into the Lanarkshire Fed programme. Did you not read that Tammy?
  10. Seems so far the only questions answered are The cheap rings are still good quality, perhaps better than some in some opinions, and therefore not a rip off, unlike most of the other Unions / Ring Suppliers who rip off members regarding the cost of the rings they supply. No answer regards why the other Unions charge more for their rings. There also seems to be deep dis-satisfaction regarding the Unions with regards to what they do do on behalf of their members. Just more pointers that the sport / hobby needs re-organised.
  11. They may not be ripping people off, but just what do they give for their Union membership? I still think the questions I have posted are valid.
  12. NWHU are stirring up a hornets nest within the other Unions over this and some other matters. I suppose it is a sort of boundary war. Clubs poach members from within another club's boundary, Feds likewise and now Unions. If NWHU can give membership for £3-50, what do they give with their membership? If their rings cost 15p, what sort of quality are the rings? If the rings are of the same quality, why do the other organisations charge 40p? Lots of questions, who has the answers? The fact remains that everyone is looking for value for money. If something is too good to believe is it really as good as you think? Just more pointers that the sport / hobby needs re-organised.
  13. Good morning all.
  14. I believe more than one truck goes with the National pigeons. What about area liberations for inland Nationals as a middle ground. This would cut the expense for the Federations whilst giving them Combine type racing as an education for pigeons flying into the same general area and at the same time give the National much needed revenue to subsidise their longer races.
  15. Live vaccines are not licenced in the UK and are therefore NOT legal. Possibly part of the problem if they are being used.
  16. Heard one of these was being released. Any info Walter?
  17. Good morning all.
  18. Happy birthday.
  19. Dreich here in East Ayrshire, visibility down to around 400 metres.
  20. I was told live vaccines are not allowed in UK and that their protection isn't as lasting as that of dead vaccines. I was also told that when the pigeons excreted that they passed live infection.
  21. What vaccine was that?
  22. See post 18.
  23. Tonne bulk bags from builders' merchant.
  24. Wet, windy and miserable here in East Ayrshire.
  25. Good morning all.
