If you keep an eye on the West Essex Fed thread http://forum.pigeonbasics.org/forum/123-west-essex-federation-and-club-results/ I'll be putting our 2013 race program on there, we race out of Huntingdon 2-3 times a year.

My Fed does the same although we have to in the first instance insure it for 12 months fully comp then reduce it to fire & theft once off the road. The insurance company then refund us the difference.

My yearlings see their hens for around 30 minutes before being basketed, the basket is then put in a spare section for around 45 minutes to allow the cocks to calm down. I'm more concerned about weather conditions than anything else, they're kept at home if there's east in the wind or a strong tail wind forecast. Its not a bad idea to send them to the first race sitting for around 6-8 days then widow them when they get home. Two replies and two different opinions.

My club charge 50p per pigeon of which around 32p goes to the fed, the reminder is split into prize money @ 40% 30% 20% 10% My own opinion is that I think it more fair to do away with prize money and just pay the fed pro-rata per pigeon and those of us that want to race for money should do so by pools alone.
