  12. your asking about stopping them at a certain time according to the dropping of flights but you must also be aware of other conditions: when they're bald around the head & when the covert feathers on the wing fall (best described when the bars of blues start to fall), in this condition they'll feel knotty. Any rain about they'll get saturated. Once through the body moult you can bring them out again and get another couple of races out of them but you have to be wary of the dropping of the last two flights, if the second from last is just pushing through leave them at home but once its grown an inch & half you can race them and they'll be in perfect condition. Once the second from last is 2/3rds grown thats its racing finished for the year.

  17. When the youngsters are around 15 days old I remove the hens. For the pairs that are rearing two youngsters I also remove one youngster which go in with the hens, the w/hood cocks then rear a single youngster each. I then repair the pigeons 16 days before the first race so come the race they're sitting 6 days. I find when the hens are removed the cocks start exercising with vigour and get themselves in trim. Once repaired I start training them (weather permitting). When they return from the first race the hens have been removed and I let the cocks sit their eggs till they chuck them in, from then on they're on w/hood.
  18. Burns Day WOW! I didn't think The Simpsons was such a big thing north of the border Joking aside Have a great day folks.
  19. The theory behind it is that you tend to lose fewer pigeons, they have a stronger bond for home BUT as stated tis just a theory.............. which costs nothing to practise.
  20. Pair up on the full moon & the youngsters should hatch on the following full moon. There's a strong magnetic pull on full moons but does this make the youngsters hatched on these events any better? who knows! It costs nothing to do so why not

  23. Above is whats called Box Perches. I would advise you to use these type of perches for youngsters as they dont take up to much room and the youngsters would be easier to catch. You should be able to get 24 of these perches inside your 7x4 loft.
  24. If they turned round and said GPS would help us understand losses/smashes better I would see the merit in it. I dont agree with the gambling angle.
