  4. A few reasons why a rouge cock enters others boxes. If you feed them individually in their nest box he is raiding them for food. Best to feed communally. Raiding other nests for nesting material (look for an abnormal size nest and he's the culprit) He just wants to rule the roost. Dispose of. A hen being driven hard will sometimes dive into another box and the cock will follow = a mass punch up. For a bit of protection for those sitting add a plastic egg in their nest, this will take brunt of the weight of the fighting pigeons.
  5. I brought this up at the London region meeting today, they will be writing to the RPRA to see if the above procedure is being carried out. If so asked would it be possible to list these rings in the Homing World.
  6. Have you a link to the pedigree and/or performance of the said pigeon George. Don't know if its worth breaking open me piggy bank or not
  7. Found this on the Nottingham Trent University website http://www4.ntu.ac.uk/sustainability/biodiversity/falcons/faq/index.html 5. Do you keep any records of the pigeon rings discarded in or around the nest? Yes. Once the falcons have left for the year, the team from NTU clear the nest and any rings found are passed on to Notts Wildlife Trust. They are then logged with the Royal Pigeon Racing Association. You may find this NTU falcons blog entry of interest.

  10. ...what they do with pigeon rings retrieved from artificial peregrine nests?
  11. Sacked! That's gratitude for ya !!!
  12. I personally like the site for what it is. I can see feather merchants & trumpet blowers joining just to shift their wares. Perhaps a way to deter these sorts is to allow them to use this facility after xxx amount of posts. This site 'Pigeonbasics' by nature of its name attracts a lot of new starters who could easily be suckered into buying pigeons that doesn't comply with what it says on the tin and feel a little protection wouldn't go amiss.

  15. Ian, the way I understand it is clubs/feds pass on all the relevant information to their region secretary, he/she will then in turn contact the appropriate authorities with individual club details.
  16. A RPRA directive to come into force this year. Letter from RPRA Head Office relating to bird Gatherings. It was stated that it was a legal requirement to notify DEFRA of any Bird Gatherings. Marking/shows /Sales/Training etc. A Summary of what was expected from Regions were as follows. Maintain and submit to their respective APHA ( https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/animal-and-plant-health-agency )office a list of all its member clubs, the physical location of the clubs meeting place and a copy of the Generic Contingency Plan. Accompanied to the list of clubs a letter outlining that from the start of April to the end of September each year, member clubs typically meet on a Friday evening for race basketing purposes and confirmation of Secretaries details which can be found on the RPRA website. Also provide each club with a copy of the Generic Contingency Plan and inform them of the requirement to display the plan on their notice board.

    Irish Mixes

I've always regarded Irish mixes as a high protein feed, perhaps this is why they lack wheat.

    Bird Flu

7 December 2016 defra1Update at 14.40 on 7th December 2016 DEFRA have released guidance in relation to Avian Influenza which includes a Prevention Zone declaration for all poultry and captive birds. The Zone that covers the whole of England, Scotland and Wales will remain in place for a period of 30 days – until 6th January 2017. A DEFRA representative has advised that this requires the immediate and compulsory confinement of pigeons within their lofts/housing. This is necessary to avoid contact with wild birds. There are no restrictions on bird gatherings such as shows but it is stressed that it is essential that good biosecurity is maintained and birds should be healthy before transporting. Updates will also be posted on this website as and when received. Further information can be found on this page of the gov.uk website.
