If you dont mind me giving you a little advice then i would like to say the following. I have lived in the west country all my life, its only 58 miles to the coast and even east or west we only get about 150 miles max so we have to channel fly or die as we say. Its true that channel flying is hard and loses increase, most of the time your birds fate lies with the conveyor/race controller and even then the weather can change quickly. However can i give the following 3 tips. 1) Many people send there best pigeons inland only and send the also rans over the channel, this is a sure way to win no prizes from france as you need your very best to win over the sea. 2) The health of the pigeon esp its breathing/respo system and eyes needs to be spot on as the wind is colder and stronger when out to sea. 3) (and most important) You have to feed your pigeon to take into account every possible type of flight, even in short 200 mile races when the winners are home in 4 hours other birds may fly around fog/mist etc or be hit with high winds and take 7-8 hours without them making a mistake. Always send them with a high degree of fuel. Just my thoughts. Stuart

Joner was a top class racer over the channel, he was also a super breeder and bred Tarmas Goddard & White WOESRC Saintes winner 391 miles 14 hours on the wing and 1300birds. This Saintes cock has gone on to breed winners too. The Dam of the Red Cock has bred 5 x 1sts and is a dtr of Red Lady 1st Nat Bordeaux 5400 and Hercules 1st Nat La Ferte Bernard 11,200b which makes her a full sister to the dam of the 1st Ace Pigeon in the National Flying Club 2007. We have in Bristol very active peregrines, i have them at my loft on a daily basis. For two weeks they have been chasing my young birds around and now they dont want to fly, my widowhood cocks also seem scared and this morning i could see why, he hit them and he took a two year cock that was due to go to Tarbes, he didnt take him away but must of damaged him enough he couldnt return. Not the best preperation for the first National race on Saturday, how can i expect them to perform when they cant freely fly the skies. Its getting hard. I think its time to get a team of Tipplers

There is faults with all systems in truth and its often the operater. I have taken the time to get to know the system im using and thats the key!!!!

Alf i know Unikon like the back of my hand and ive handled everyones in Bristol without any problem at all. I have upgraded our club unit and the NFC unit with no problems. I just cant get my head around this one, ask Ray as he is very helpful and he doesnt hide under any stones like the other buggers. Stu

Hi John It goes to show that people have very different success with many different lines and families, the main thing is to find the birds that suit you. On the whole Gaby pigeons havnt been successful in the West Country, maybe as they have to fly against the wind every week (only a guess) yet they have done some real damage in the South East. I make the wind comment as i know they didnt excel in the West Midlands too but i have noticed they have done really well up the east side. So John when i pop over i will pick up a pair of they Williamson Pigeons Stu

Ive been extremely dissapointed with them on the whole, even when the loft have been on super form they just havnt kept up and the harder it gets the farther they fall behind. I orginally brought a few in as they were doing well in the UK and all my other lines were dutch but there not a patch on the Zwols and Molevelds. Just my experience mind. Stu

Little more light and air!!!! Looks to be quality made. Stuart -
I can tell only that the pigeon is in good health, the rest breeding or racing would have to be decided by the basket.

Thanks all for the kind words, i do try my best!!!! I said to Alan that i believe i have the best bird in the world and in Red Lady a dream pigeon was born that has bred winners all over the world. Shame she is just a pet now but she will always have a perch in my loft. Red Lady 5 x 1st from Bergerac and Bordeaux including 1st Nat Bordeaux I was pleased to hear that the Frans Zwols had potential too. Stuart

Hagen Brothers, we have plenty of them. Stuart

As an auctioneer and seller of pigeons you recieve lots of phone calls sometimes 30 a day. When i placed the Keith Nethercott advert i had at least 35 phone calls asking me if there was any 2009 ybs, when i replied no they said bugger, ive lost most of my ybs throgh illness, hence the post. Alot of them mentioned that they had even had ybs die that they had purchased from "various" studs hence the original question. Sounds like this problem of Killer Viruses is getting worse, do you think that a database setup and ran by the RPRA would help???

I had a situation at the end of last season, one week after the last yb race i seperated the birds and put all the young hens in the yb loft with stock hens and older widowhood hens. Within 3 weeks the stock hens which have never flown out had lost wieght and condition. I came to the conclusion that this was caused by a virus probaly from the young race hens. As they had been exposed to it over a period of training and racing they had built up so resistance but the breeding had not had the same exposure and struggled a little when faced with it. Stuart

Now that the foundation of my loft is complete i will add yearly a brother/sister child of the Tarbes NFC winner (if i can buy one) to blend with Raymonds Blood as its the race i most want to win. Stuart

Aad Van Berkal told me that he bred most of his grizzles from Grizzle paired to a Smokey Cheq or Blue. He said if you pair grizzle to grizzle they tend to go whiter.

The thread wasnt put up to point fingers i was trying to assitain causes on sickness on young birds as we are all vulnerable to these things and the more we know the better, i mention the word stud as a few people have stated that its new birds to loft that have triggered the problems, it ofcourse may be that the desease is in the loft and new stock struggle with the different strains of desease.

Hi there Im not sure but i would be interested to find out, i thought PMV had weakened somewhat over the years parathyphoid had taken over but maybe not. Did he buy the 70 young birds or breed them or was there a mix. Something very similiar has happened to a friend, he brought some birds in that died and now his own birds are suffering, i feel desperately sorry for him. Stuart
-
Not really interested in what stud it is, is anyone getting the problem identified so that we can learn more about it???? Progress is the key factor. I heard that an Irish Fancier lost 65 from 70 ybs????? thats very severe.
-
Ive been hearing lots of news about mass young birds death's amognst fanciers including lots of ybs that have been bought in from studs, is anyone else hearing the same??? Stuart
