Tom hi mate, i hope you and the family are well, i was speaking to dad at the marking the other day he looked younger than ever. It was in fact my father who discovered that basket full of pigeons when the lorry went in for a service, he was wrking at Veals in Chilcompton and at the time it was lucky cus they would have perished for sure. The last 2 days many fanciers have had pigeons work in, must be something to do with weather or the wind changing, ive had 3 so has Les Nichols and a few others. Stuart P.S. i have an old Pictorial with the Avis family in, must have been along time ago as Whippet didnt even have whiskers, if you dont have a copy let me know and i will put it in the post.

If you put the work into them like the older ybs then you will get something out, i often train my later ones North as its more convenient, i have found if you can get them through to 2 year then they will blend into the team and be a good addition. The problem is many people treat them as any other when they are yearlings and they soon go down. I have in the last 2 weeks started training my 9 2008 l/breds ready for next year, my 2007 latebreds have now been across the channel 3 times and i have 6 from 9!!!! Stuart

Tidy I know alot of people talk about the advantages of swopping bloodlines and well maybe they have a point. Stuart

Sorry Mate, misunderstood. I knew both Alan Sales and Mike Young very well. Alan used to come to Blackpool with us and Mike lived in the next village and was a long time member of Farrington Gurnay. Stuart

Hello John Yes we have a tidy but small family of Jan Theelens from Jan himself plus a few Hagen lines, Jan even had 6 ybs back from us to go to stock as he said we had preserved the family so well!!! We bred 6th National Barcelona and 3rd Nat Bordeaux last year from our Theelens.

I usually get a letter/pm a week asking for pigeons by new starters, funny thing is i never see any new starters. I always follow the same procedure, i ask for there name, address, name of club and a referance name, i.e. a fancier who is already Known to them and can confirm they have joined a club and intend on flying. Funny, i rarely get a reply. I did have pleasure this year in supply a 7 year old with some new birds, so they are still out there. Stuart

Mixxy the 24 were bred by Aad Van Berkel!!! Destination is a well kept secret im afraid you know what folk are like.

This basket of ybs was part of 24 bound for ireland in 2009 Alot of Chinesse and Tiawenese fanciers flock to Van Berkels every year, they say the grizzle lines are the most consistant in there difficult and hot climate.

As we have a holdover i got some time on my hands. Many fanciers have won worldwide with Silver Shodow Van Loons form Eijerkamp, my own best friend Nigel Templer has won 1st Open Classic 1st Section NFC and 1st Combine with them. Nigel wanted to add to his family and search through the breeding list of the Family Eijerkamp, he noticed that they had been heavily crossed so he asked me to track down some inbred shadows, what i found was the creator Aad Van Berkel and a beutiful and silky inbred family. Aad Van Berkel from Rotterdam managed to get some pigeons from his then Father in Laws family Comb V D Werf these were mainly Cheq and Blue Van Loons, however he was also gifted a Grizzle Tournier Pigeon. Hen paired the Grizzle Tournier with a cheq Van Loon called Rominger and from that pair in 1993 94 and 95 bred alot of nestpairs of Grizzle cocks. These Grizzle cocks became Silver Shadow. Silver Man Silver Boy Silver Bullet etc. Now at that time Tournier was a distance strain but Aad was very much an upto middle distance fancer, these grizzles excelled esp in tough races, this didnt go un noticed by the Family Eijerkamp who done a deal for Silver Shadow and Silver Bullet, other after that went to the Greenfield stud as well such was the Eijerkamps success with these birds. Concerned for his decission Aad Van Berkel bred tightly around the remaining brothers and has bred an inbred family of Silver Shadow van loons.

Joner has bred around 10 x 1st including 1st WOESRC Saintes 15 hrs on the wing and 1500b from Saintes 400 miles for Goddard Tarmas White, this pigeon i believe is sire of winners too. He is a 96 pigeon but he will be offered with his hen at a very affordable opening bid so if you pay a price worthy of the hen he will be free. Stuart

1998 and 2000 chris, both have bred 6 ybs this year. Stu

Joner will be offered with a matched hen

Its been a while since i have sold anything on Pigeon Basics so i wanted to do something special on my return. On my restart in 2007 i recruited some of the best lines in the UK which has repaid me with some special results, the blood of Pheonix, Pied Pheonix, Joner, Sister Vital, Golden Eyes has i believe set me up for the future. I have taken a number of birds this year off these old guys for stock. I plan in the winter to build a new Stock Loft, a smaller one may i add so i have decided to sale some of the older birds to fund it. Whilst these pigeons are older i believe they will provide the building blocks for any loft as they have mine. I hope to get the sale up and running by the end of June. It will be an auction with a starting price of either £50 or £100 depending on the bird, the rest will be down to bids.

Mate In the last two seasons 2007 and 2008 my birds have flown out of there skins and won all before them however today 2009, i have hit a brick wall, old birds coming ok but not in front like before, my ybs are being taken and chased by hawks, lost a load and im down in the dumps however iv always been told that when things are not going your way you have to work twice as hard, clean out 2 times a day, clean the drinkers every day, improve the ventilaltion the food the exercise, what ever it takes to improve and if you hit the same crack hard enough and often enough it will open up. Have faith and confidence in yourself and follow a program of improvement and you will get there, maybe not tomorrow but maybe the day after. Stuart Wilcox
