  1. They are from generations of winners and like breeds like! This guy wouldnt have them if they were no good. I have had many of the Van Reets off him myself, and they couldnt touch me round here when i was racing. I have bred a team for my son to race this year and even a 15yr old racing them to the perch hasnt been out of the cards yet in his first 2 races and the rest of the club are on the darkness and widowhood Etc, so this must tell you something of the caliber of the birds No real motivation and still in there every week!

    over-train?

Well street lighting might affect them but im sure the birds get used to it as they grew up to that enviroment, unless you got kids hanging round under it till all hours? then that might make a difference. The birds here get disturbed by security lights going on and off all night and they dont seem bothered by it and they do get trained hard and show no signs of wilting. Seems you might have a bit of something going on health wise. Have you done all the treatments and are they up to date? It doesnt take much of a problem to stop them in their tracks and its easy to forget something. Its a shame though i admired those birds of yours months back in the pictures bit of this forum. I hope you get it sussed and sorted and some of the ones you have dropped work back home for you. If you want to pick my tiny brain on the subject feel free to send me a PM and i will do my best to help you out.

    Master plan!

Well when i was racing birds mine were taken and put up in any weather, boiling hot, rain, sleet, snow even fog. My way of thinking is, if they cant find their way home from a maximun of the 24 miles that i trained from, then they were no good to me! I have bred my lad whos 15 a batch to race this year as hes been pigeon mad all his life and wanted to have a go at it himself, he has had them trained everyday barring a saturday come what may for over a fortnight now. they have seen plenty of different weather in that short time from east winds, strong west winds, mist to thunderstorms and temps up to 30 degrees here in Herefordshire and all thats succumbed so far from his batch of 36 is 1, and that, if hes lucky will never be heard of again, not cause we dont care about the birds, but its better to think its died trying rather than couldnt stick the pace and parked its self up in someones garden. Today is very hot, humid and misty here in these here hills but they will be off 20 miles again later and if they dont come back it will be cheaper to keep them and there will be no tears shed cause if they are no good then they are better off gone. Im sure there will be plenty of comments that its taking the stuffing out the birds but its never done me any harm as i really have'nt lost that many, mind perhaps tonights the night you never know and thats what makes it interesting. Good luck to you all, and you have some fine looking birds there Jason it has to be said.
  25. Get a box or washing basket and prop one end up with a stick about 10 - 12" long on a piece of string and place some seed around the outside and a good amount under the trap towards the back, then stay a safe distance away so he pops under and when hes picking away pull the string. Works every time and im sure the bird will soon be in your hands. Good luck and thank you for taking the time to help out a lost bird its good to hear about.
