  1. Twice a day for me,once in the morning and once in the late afternoon, they do seem to rest more that way,now ime in the garden racing all my birds are occupied in the same loft so now they can hear whats going off, plus my hens are in the next section to them,i dont believe widow hens are to be far away from the cocks has ive seen many top lofts with there hens next to there cock, but back to your question, the best form ive seen with widowers is when there not disturbed during the day while they lay in there boxes resting.Good Luck.
  2. if he trains for the nationals, and have been entered in them a few times its the pigeons that are wiser with having to use there heads bud. Les

2nd training toss today with the transporter,i had 1 cock 5 mins before the rest, trapped straight up to his box,the other came all together and trapped up so ime pretty pleased with them.Looks like my first 1 split straight away. ;D Les
  4. its usually the british fanciers that makes the name for the foreign fanciers has when we win we call them van this or van that,so they get the recocnition without having to do the work. But i believe also that we are better breeders has we make the family better once there in this country,i know 1 or 2 top breeders on basics and if they were dutch they would be famous. 5. Ha ,ok,was wondering what you wanted a magpie for, ;D
  6. Must say spencer, the eyes ive seen on your birds will definatly take some weakening, unless you put the wrong pigeon into them,i know myself the eyes on the old vanden bosch keep the same strenth through many generations,my old breed of van den bosch has gone 10 generations down now and still hold exactly the same eyes.
  7. Now this is what i like to hear, good post Merlin.

Jimmy, you talk a very lot of sence, anmd with the years of expierience you have had it does make you think, the pigeons are very important, there like a family to me,and the birds i have now i love em,i carnt wait on my days off to spend the time with them, and it would hurt to see them go down in the first races, luckily ive had some years of experience and hopefully know when to send them and when to keep them at home, but good advice jimmy, keep it up bud, theres a lot of new commers to the sport and would benefit from this.
  9. ;D ;D ;D ;D Love it,Best thing about it, its true, ;D ;D
  10. no i mean from your first arrival to you last, not from the start of the race, youve miss understood how i said it. ;D
  11. Sent u pm
  12. yes tammy, its certainly is to win races and thats all it is bud,if it wasnt no body would use this darkness system,on darkness you can get your team home from a 200ml race in 15mins,i have seen this done,on natural you might be waiting hours from your first to last, thats the difference,Leen Boers in Belguim was doing this years before anybody knew about it.

Thats what i mean, its too cold so you dont train, racing comes, novices enter there birds, birds not fit enouth, crash, they dont get home, not because of the cold, its because there not fit enouth to tackle it. Les

I agree,we seem to start earlier every year, thought someone would realise that but no,we start when the weather is cold and finish when the weather is hot.No wonder people are starting to train there widowers, after all were there to compete in races, you just carnt send them to the first race with no training, ive seen this happen and some have lost them on the very first race.Bad or what.and not because it is cold, because of lack of training. Les
  15. yea i know, ive looked way back into busscheart birds were the klaren came from etc etc.i also think once you have had a family of pigeons for about 6 yrs they become your own pure breed. ;D
  16. Now then ,we all talk about the eye sign theory the throat theory, wing theory and so on,BUT what is racing condition, does this top the above subjects and does this come first,i know from years of practice and keeping very fit myself that pigeons will not win nothink without fitness and maintaining a good level of breathing tecniuqes for them to be able to race there heads off.One experiment i did a few years ago was i flagged 1 hen 1hr morning 1 hr night for 10 days then sent her to a 157ml race ( 1 pigeon Basketed ) and won that race. 1st thing i proved ,it was fitness that got her home fast. Love to hear more opinions,Les
  17. Still must admit,if your birds came from a race like that,i guess id be happy with them, tail or head wind its still results. Les
  18. ur right, then we buy them and try to keep them so called pure,WHY ?
  19. ive bred early youngsters over the years and have never won a card with them, even has yearlings, has youngsters i found them to be too stupid, the march bred ones kicked them into the ground,so thats when i fetch my youngsters off now.I might put them on darkness this year has it will be less time on it before i have to take them off again.
  20. sure do bud ;D
  21. yea i guess it sounds quit rightto me,they like the light do youngsters so yea.
  22. didnt fly darkness last year,my youngsters still won a few races but for over 150mls they do need to be on it,over that the darkness birds dominate results, really if you want to win young bird races over that then i feel you must fly on the darkness.i enjoyed racing last year without the darkness.
  23. i believe your right, like anyone of us do,we bury the rubbish, but ive watched this done for years by other foreign fanciers, internet is the easy way of watching. And if they are good he will blend them like we all do and they surely will be back over here with good names to them.
