  1. A great hobby!
  2. It is good to see some great results, and more importantly the 'Lesser Mortals' indeed moving up the ladders. Be it a rung at a time, but up wards and steeling resauces for tomora's new challenges, hopes, dreams and us 'Wing and a Prayer hopers' too that may well besmiling on top some day soon. This is what the sport revolves around. The dreaming and planner, setting stools out in winter months, the hopes of 'Hit or miss' matings. Sure some seasons our hopes are dashed, and we become dispondant etc. ... till new dreams emerges and the 'Fire' is rekindles... year in and year out for some of us lol... but wouldn't have it any other way 'IT is what makes this hobby what it is'''
  3. Most will be back tomorrow... some later on like. Just ignore them and leave loft door open if possible. May be that you will have to trap them like thi for a couple of weeks till they are confident and afeel safe. Talk gentle and put them through the traps a couple of times each, each day. Then 2 weeks time, when hungry they will coe in. Best think now is quiet voice and slow movements at all times around them. May well be no harm is done, could well even a good thing a little further down the line. Need a heading on that subject too I guess. Nights out, good or bad, but of course not discussed on here. Good luck mucker. Hope they are back sooner than later ... though often thoses away like this for a few days turn out to be good day birds from nigh anywhere, weather permitting of course. Good luck.
  4. I don't write now... but did a fair bit a little while back, 3/4 years back. Indeed but am often asked, in fact very often asked, to start my column up again. Doubt if this will ever happen, but who knows. I ruffled a few feathers lol and had some threats lol. Indeed iOne club was so riddled with a bad conscoius that they thougfht I was referring to them... could have bben too, but wasn't on that occasion. I'd agree with Simon 100% in what he has stated. i never did put in results though... was two oters doing that in my area. But one must also be aware, and realise a simple fact. Truth is they are human, and some are there to better their own nests, and others after feathering their' nest a re interested in others birds... take that how you wish. Also, some are blatant hypoocrites, and deliberately use their space to enhance friend and circles. Know of some that are deliberately fibbing and stating untruths, and many know this, unfortunately there is a lot of B/S believed and harm to trusting folks and especially to the fancy at large. Good golly, sure the scribes words must be reliable, accruate - as far as posile - and in the interest of the sport as a whole. Of course the simple fact is 'It's Not' and 'It won't be'.

    SAINTES

    :-/ :-/ Rooting, is that when you're picking yer noses? ;D ;D
  6. :-/ :-/ Why?
  7. like a pour on, and let Percy enjoy if he must...
  8. open door! just let them pick around in the garden. They will find plenty to amuse them ... and have the loft door as a 'Safty zone to fly into. Light feed to your voice. Good luck.
  9. No need to rock the boat, especially needlessly. Just ask that ALL velocity's are forwarded as Phil and Gangster have said. They will and the record will be, quite rightly yours. I
  10. or spit in the eye... and smokers spit even better. The cause, most likely, is probably a draft ... little hole, need no bigger than a nail head that is causing a draftin it's eye
  11. Great, but when you see it, or get it - which I hope you never do - you will say 'Wished... especially if it wipes the board with you. But everyone to their own. Though as a regulated rule, and Dafra rule I feel you shouldn't being advocating as such personally.
  12. Not too late to jab. most should be done at least twice, 3 times as youngsters. - This we discussed on here before - Personally I would remove, and treat all the others pronto. Bet your bottom dollar they all have, even if not showing signs yet.
  13. http://www.bbc.co.uk/theoneshow/article/2008/07/dlo_falcon1.shtml One the plus side (for Irish fanciers anyway), the rspb cannot confirm if there are peregrines in Ireland. Probably means a good few hundred pairs if their their own previous calculations are anything to go by. Or does it mean they are not indigenous like the eagle owl here, and should be removed. Nah, them crafty Irish RSPB taught their peregines to feed on snakes . ;D ;D
  14. Swallows etc. apparently photo the sky every night, then remembered likeso they know exactly where they are at all times... Indeed remove them of line a little and they just get lost. Incidently it would take a 12 story building to do the same...! :-/
  15. Fantastic mucker... I did last December and still paying ;D Was getting married this 08/ 08 /2008, but keep forgetting to mention it to her :X 8) Any way congratulations, and don't send me any cake... be stale time the pigeon finds it way down here lol ... I know there are some pigeons in Scotland, I dropped 10 past 3 weeks ago, and the Fed QUITE A FEW TOO. 6 now back between us...
  16. Nowt wrong with those birds... Remember also that it is thought that when shedding and replacing they have extra energy... like a woman having a baby gets a load... then does all the house work etc. which makes the labour harder ;D But many swear that it the best time to send... others feel that it's for the growing of the new feathers...
  17. Leave mine in also, any bird, loft fit, that has 2/3 chucks should take a 100 miles race in it's stride.
  18. Yep got the same one... always entertaining and interesting reading. I believe, personally, all Race Controllers and Liberators should read Steves viewson these... have them all still no doubt.
  19. Me... even sending a gilted limo for me and Joyce free of charge... A true canny Scotsman there! ;D ;D
  20. How very true, one I have been harking on about for 5 years now. The silly answer that it is the 'Dog'd B*****cks' and suffices doesn't stop the same members asking and moaning most weeks 'Did you give them any waters... mine came home thirsty as ...' etc. Simple with a fish pump... one used for a say 4 foot tank to have running WATER on Four sides. This means also that it would reduce any contamination from affected birds! And some fall on stoney ground eh!
  21. Have to agree with you there Mick 100%. Above my dreams. but all power to your elbow mucker ... Money where mouth is and that's for sure... Easy for us with no money, or able to face the logic, to ha ha boo it. Carry on mucker, and who ever gets it, lets hope it helps to set up a sucessful loft of winners!
  22. Well done gal ... hopes it regular too lol ;D
  23. Afraid I fear that that would be the later. With toda's climate in fuel costs, every £'s a prisoner, but feel that they would run from a needless peeing contest. Has to be a real lucrative market to get competition... and as the fact that Amtrack has gone unchallenged for so long, i further feel that shows there is the money in it to warrent a market.
  24. Oh yes, I have no doubt that the good man himself will donate a small % Let's see2.5% of 250,000 means... ;D
  25. You know, and these are real facts, Many started with Churchers in days gone by. Many had great results. Now the reality is 98% of pigeons aren't up to it. That is a hard to swallow fact. 80% ... more if one believes all they hear and read, are bred in the purple. 95% are related to National winners etc. etc. 25 IN real terms make the grade. Now if s a stray, bred in the pink meets another stray at the church rendovue and have young, chances are that they will breed better youngsters that MOST fanciers / Lofts. It has at least as much chance as most matings. If I was realastic, then a see nothing wrong in having 12 strays (6 pairs) and would do as well, if not better than most lofts. Golly 10 minutes before 50% of birds are lost, they are thought of as a 'Hope' a 'Main stay' of the future in the loft!
