  1. Wiley, I must be in the wrong country with your predominately South westerlies... North to North Westerlie here, and world wide.
  2. Well you are all one up on me then ... which is any yardstick, but fail to notice. Maybe that's because I haven't seen the topics etc. Sure there is some banter between some... and sometimes this does distract from the main thread which can be annoying. Ok. there are also rather heated debates... but we aren't children! 'Spoil brats maybe lol ;D ;D, but this will always be around on a good site. This is the very essence surely of a good site. Personal and swearing forbidden of course, and attacks on ones family is more than uncalled for. But if any one says like 'Roland you a first class plonker... you are talking crap and should shut up .... etc. the only part that is- to me- that could be address is the '.... and should shut up' part as it must be, whether other views are different or not, allowed to be voiced. Agreed that a constant referral, and then say a constant uncalled for rib is not the order of the day. THEN I am entitled to put that before the Mod / Richard etc. I was pulled and carpeted not long back, because I objected to a certain 'Seller' advertising in triple or more'. When I pointed this out around 3 times, he reported me. (Cheeky Git ;D ;D . But he has sold all he needed, hence doesn't come on now... will do no doubt when the Y/B's are ready for orders. Will be interesting the reason as he has sold all that made him over stocked.... So he won't want / need the 1st, 2nd 3/4/5th rounders whatever. But I'd wager my bottom dollar he will be back selling. So if I am missing and blumming good ole ding dong, please Pm me... That is the surest and quickest, some may even say best, way of making a site popular. Within reason of course that is!
  3. Simple answer that. Just look at the nationals.... mostly after 300 miles deffinately hens are tops. Then see the system! Natural. Take a step back as to why, and regardless of what system Hens. Why... only one answer to why, and that is because... They are more genuine, more determine and above all - prehaps, they are easier to motivate. Jealousy for instance plays a big part in nigh ALL motivation, whether it's wit another bird, restriction etc. etc. So on a distance / hard race, the hens are tops. Such as Frank Bristow do really well with their hens... though of course Thurso and Lerwick where he excelled this year wasn't a real distance to him, or a hard races wise, but hens win more for him than cock birds.
  4. Hi all, and thanks for those that have nominated me. Personally I feel a mite undeserving in some aspects. Further a mite uncomfortable to stand so to speak. So whilst I am indeed honoured, amazed even, I'd rather not be considered. BYes I am both suprised and honoured to be considered, so no way is this intended to be a slight in any way shape or or form. Thanks again... but it just isn't me.

    Stella

CREDIT CRUNCH Husband and wife are shopping in Tesco's when the man picks up a crate of Stella and sticks them into the trolley 'What do you think you're doing?' asks the wife 'They're on offer, only £10 for 24 cans', he says 'Put them back. We can't afford it,' says the wife and they carry on shopping... A few aisles later the woman picks up a £20 jar of face cream and sticks it into the trolley. 'What do you think you're doing?' asks the man, 'It's my face cream. It makes me look beautiful,' she says. The man replies... 'so does 24 cans of Stella and it's half the price'.
  6. Soryy ......... We can harness all posters . should have read Can not of course.
  7. Well it is sad to lose any body from this site, for whatever reason. 99% of topics and posts someone gets something off... even if it's dandruff; D. But seriously I remember not so long ago a Topic I started up, and had some good interests and posts, as to why some do feel the need to leave. Came after the 'Names' and the topic where a poster just slated a fellow poster with any and everything, and all of IT unrelated to pigeons. One would be surprise just how many P.m. me to say that it was indeed the reason that they didn't post... uncalled for Flak. Yes one or two also posted as such. We can harness all posters, indeed to do so, would be the biggest and quickest down fall of this and any other site. Indeed even to try would be totally uncalled for and -as far as I'm concerned wrong. However in these days of freedom of speech and human rights, too many deem it upon them self as beyond reproach and accountable for their actions. This is uncalled for, not wanted via the vast majority. Hence every so often we lose a worthwhile and beneficial poster. Can't call it a causality of war, because it is in any sense that, as a debating site should be just that, a place to learn, air views and pass on worthwhile experiences. Sure it is fine, and healthy to disagree, BUT not to be disagreeable! Where does the answer lie? Possibly if posts of bad taste were simply ignored!? I believe that most such posts are for attention, seeking a Limelight, and to be noticed however misbegotten it may be. So I hope Harry stays, though of course we have to respect his decisions regardless.
  8. Thought I'd pass this on... I never knew some of it, so have learnt a little more... Ted, use to go Cardington Mill, and the Electic place over where you are. Electric place was warm most year round and Tench was great fishing there. Former in - laws of course are still all at Bedford. Still see them and get on Ok with them.
  14. John McCain and Barack Obama somehow ended up at the same barber shop. As they sat there, each being worked on by a different barber, not a word was spoken. The barbers were both afraid to start a conversation, for fear it would turn to politics. As the barbers finished their shaves, the one who had McCain in his chair reached for the after shave. McCain was quick to stop him saying, ' No thanks, my wife Cindy will smell that and think I've been in a whorehouse'. The second barber turned to Barack and said 'how about you?' Obama replied 'Go ahead, my wife Michelle doesn't know what the inside of a whorehouse smells like! It was Postman Pat's last day on the job after 35 years of carrying the mail through all kinds of weather to the same villages and towns. When he arrived at the first house on his route, the whole family there, who all hugged and congratulated him and sent him on his way with a cheque for £50,after greeting him. At the second house they presented him an 18-carat gold watch. The folks at the third house handed him a bottle of 15-year old Scotch whisky. At the fourth house a dumb brunette in her lingerie met him at the door. She took him by the arm and led him up the stairs to the bedroom where she blew his mind with the most passionate love he had ever experienced. When they went downstairs, the brunette fixed him a full English breakfast: bacon, eggs, sausage & tomato with freshly squeezed orange juice. As she was pouring him a cup of steaming coffee, he noticed a £5 note sticking out from under the cup. 'All this was just too wonderful for words,' he said, 'but what's the five quid for?' 'Well,' said the dumb brunette, 'Last night, I told my husband that today would be your last day and that we should do something special for you'. 'I asked him what I should give you'. He said, 'expletive removed* him. Give him a fiver.' She smiled shyly and said, 'The breakfast was my idea.'

    are we just mad?

I don't know... Fishing / Photograthy, Kids etc. etc. all cost a fortune. It depends on what level one wishes to play. A rod and bent pin, spiders, mouse etc. catch anything. the ole camera's take great photo's... but most hobbies are dearer than pigeons I feel. Exception is what price the birds, camera, rods you buy,

Between 1/3 and 2/6 per basket. Had to decide whether to get two weeks feed, or risk a training toss lol.

    Carl Froch

And full credit has to be given Jean Pascale, they brought the best out of each other. Indeed, I would say that Carl is the best since the Benn, Eubank, Clelandand Collins of course. Before Sibson was probably the best, though never got the credit, I believe, he so very much deserved.

    Carl Froch

What a boxer / fighter. No wonder Joe didn't want a piece of him! That jean Pascale was a class act and make no mistake about that! He will be a future world champion given a chance, no doubt about that. He has uts and a great heart, Also a boxing brain, with speed and power, an awesome combination. Yes and is still yougish and 'Up for It'! Now Carl has, like Barry McQuiggan says, proved what most already knew, that Carl is undoubtedly the worlds' number one. What many folks don't realise is that Carl is a very heavy and hurtful puncher. Every blow delivered hurts. Some boxers 'Sting' or are classed as 'Sharp' punchers. Yes they do stop a few etc. But a puncher like Carl hurts every time he lands with either hand. pascale showed such bravery and ished out some punishment him self to say the least. Yet, yet again Carl just took it all in his stride. Not many other, if any will beat Jean Pascale, you mark my words.
  19. Well Alan - Allbear - will no doubt be happy to have you on his door step so to speak, and perhaps realy ;D Good luck. May well be that some of these couriers will be helping each other ans splitting costs, and still be profitable. No need for two to go when one can eh! Or relayed, that can be a bind, even burdensome for the 'Fancier' with an amount of anxiousness, but would be realism and practicable I feel. Of course no need to pass on any costs save to the 'Fancier' especially if all in all a better, more helpful service is arrived at!
  20. Was one like I said close by. That was at Walgrave school till the new head master had it removed. This must be similiar, a pigeon club that is looking after a loft set up for a school! So yes I can see where the need is for raising monies to cover costs. Great the members are doing it... but surely a little back to cover their out lay is in order? !
  21. My husband, being unhappy with my mood swings, bought me a mood ring the other day so he would be able to monitor my moods. We've discovered that when I'm in a good mood, it turns green. When I'm in a bad mood, it leaves a big f-cking red mark on his forehead. Maybe next time he'll buy me a diamond".
  22. They shut their eyes and hope lol ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
  23. This is amazing. Unfortunately the video tapes pauses 3 or 4 times while playing. Just wait a few seconds and it will start up again. http://www.sonnyradio.com/herodog.html

Was a couple of Ex Pigeon Army Core that wrote in the BHW as scribes etc. they both said that this was true. Indeed one was told what Birds etc. to load up and take. Over seas of course this is Boo Hoo ed, and for good reason. The Belgiums for instance, have this thing about cutting the crops so they didn't make any sounds and were hid in Lofts and Cellers.... And fed the scrapes of the table, and pinched, bought grain etc. from the local farmers etc. etc. Now, according to history, the Gestapo etc. were not renowned for kindness and being mercyful. Indeed - as were we and most - little regard in the 'Milk and Honey' store was shown to any one caught going anti rules. Especially when lessons needed to be handed out. Now, I believe that if they did this, it was - to my mind - complete irrational! To put the lifes of loved ones, families and ones self at risk for a love of pigeons! Not many wifes and mothers would have been happy I bet... ESPECIALLY when one considers the reason pigeons were rounded up and culled etc. and their uses as messengers. I don't think many would risk my wifes na kids lives for it! Lofts were actually built via US and were made with logs egdes etc. and were on wheels. These were moved around. Likewise crates on ships for the pigeons. Great article in 'Scotland's Own' on this 1994 I believe. Some of course were allowed to keep their lofts for the purpose og the Germans' use as messagers. Delbar was one apparently. Yet here again, owing to their use, MOST culled before the Germans could lay hands on them. Like when Churchill gave France the ultimatom. 'By tomorrow or we bomb you'! Yes even then we had to help scuttle their ships. So I would regard that few birds were kept. Incidently, just because it is history, My father, and a fellow call 'Fox' were the first two allies into Begium when we liberated them. They were sent ahead to clear out some remaining die hard snipers.
  25. Yep... seen this 10 or more years ago. Mind Most motor way go North to South . East to West etc. Often wonder how they navigated the 'Shipping Lanes' when flying Channels etc lol ;D ;D
