A woman went to the doctor's office where she was seen by one of the younger doctors. After about four minutes in the examination room, she burst out screaming as she ran down the hall. An older doctor stopped her and asked what the problem was, and she told him her story. After listening, he had her sit down and relax in another room. The older doctor marched down the hallway back to where the young doctor was writing on his clipboard. "What's the matter with you?" the older doctor demanded. "Mrs. Terry is 61years old, has four grown children and seven grandchildren, and you told her she was pregnant?" The younger doctor continued writing and without looking up said, "Does she still have the hiccups?"

This is so true If you can start the day without caffeine, If you can always be cheerful, ignoring aches and pains, If you can resist complaining and boring people with your troubles, If you can eat the same food every day and be grateful for it, If you can understand when your loved ones are too busy to give you any time, If you can take criticism and blame without resentment , If you can conquer tension without medical help, If you can relax without liquor, If you can sleep without the aid of drugs, .....Then You Are Probably The Family Dog!

I've a spare comparment where I will just leave 3 pairs in to let them mate up over three days. Then put back in own loft - Hens and Cocks are still seperated - then anoth three. Of course will be happy for them to pair them selves up. Also have a 4 x 5 x 5 foot avery where I will place a hen and cock bird in for three days. Hopfully when put together in nesting side they will stick to the mates like and settle better.

Feel for you wattle. Salt. As recommend by the RSPCA and RSPB. Was used to clear districts of any B.O.P to great effect. Not knocking, but peronally I never understand why more fanciers don't use it when letting out, or training etc. I know one must have then a feeling that they are sacrificing their birds. Shouldn't it really be looked at a helping any and every other bird?

He daren't.... might have to read them lol.

Yes, interesting topic. Been also told their eyesight is many time better than ours. So that in it's self draws out one or two interesting points. One, a cock bird will see his hen way of and dart of for her. Most will agree o that. Further when 'Racing' they will still fly more than quite quickly, even if hedge hopping etc. against a wind. Yet only at the very last moment swerve, or raise up at the death to skip over hedges or swerve around tree tops. Yet further are past masters at hitting wires. even when just flying out? :-/ This lends to me, the believe that once they set of to home the 'Lock On' to their course are - as most will have noticed - seem completely unaware of obstacles. Further they always fly with an 'Reserve' turn of speed. Presumably this is regards as a defence mechanism to abort from danger.

An elderly senior couple were invited to an old friends home for dinner one evening. She was impressed by the way her lady friend preceded every request to her husband with endearing terms such as: Honey, My Love, Darling, Sweetheart, Pumpkin, etc. The couple had been married almost 70 years and, clearly, they were still very much in love. While the husband was in the living room, her lady friend leaned over to her host to say, 'I think it's wonderful that, after all these years, you still call your husband all those loving pet names'. The elderly lady hung her head. 'I have to tell you the truth,' she said, 'his name slipped my mind about 10 years ago, and I'm scared to death to ask the cranky old *expletive removed* what his name is.'

can you keep your cocks n hens together.
Roland replied to mavrick's topic in Breeding, Strains & Families
Yes after a round, slipping Pot eggs and race dry is good. Also if able just slipping a new born youngster into a nest, if not eggs etc. This works great, and especially for the cock birds. Hens I feel are better and more genuine on hard and / or distance races. Hence, thoiugh both benefit, and hen sitting tight around the 14 days has proved to be a time. Yes yearling cocks driving either win.... or you don't see them. Why? who really knows, it just happens that way it seems. Old cocks driving on a big youngster is their time of course to shine. -
can you keep your cocks n hens together.
Roland replied to mavrick's topic in Breeding, Strains & Families
I use to keep mine together all the year round. Advantage was more settled lofts. Never had eggs before End of March. Disadvantage is if and when you wish to change partners. Better for open lofts and distances because they are more content and settled. -
Remember when I posted that I had one ‘Fund – Raisers’ etc. which bought, - with the help of just TWO others, to buy one, that was sold, and then another transporter? How then no one wanted to do another fund raiser of any kind as we had money left over and voted that way, although less than a third attended. How 3 years down the line we held special meetings stating that the Funds was – gone, dried up, gone! That it had been used to subsidised their’ racing etc. Further that unless we raise the subs we would go under, plain and simple. How hard it was to get them to eventually voted on and pass it! How the AGM for the first time ever had many new faces there. How it went into chaos as two propositions went in saying now that the Subs had gone up £3 they wanted it to be spent on ‘Prize money’! Both proposition were hotly debated in disbelief via me with a couple more. 4 hours later it was agreed and voted between them that any monies over at seasons end would be added to the prize money! Of course we knew there wasn’t going be much, if any. That I’m afraid is the mentality of many fanciers…. And these are the one spouting and whinging, self, self, and self and any left self again. Let others pay, any one but us! They same sorts that get ripped of regularly flying and paying in sections and nationals with no chance whatsoever but gladly bolster the coffers of the able. Yet still quite happily buy useless rings and pay higher fees year in year out! Time for some to get real, wake up and smell the coffee I think!

Some sense Mick there.... But of course as we know, or those that care to attend or read up when bulletins are posted and made aware the BUILDING of the RPRA is in dire straights of repairs or starters. Now does one move / do it up. If sold off would be a great loss in real terms - though to be truthful I was in favour of cutting losses and moving etc. If sharing were a feasible route to have taken of course they would have already done that. Mick, and not saying you, too many want to sit and twiddle thumbs and moan.... be better of with wool and knitting needles I guess as at least they would get a pair of sock for the pains lol. But inflation and depreciation have an effect and costs. No two ways about that. See a point raised where it was thought it would be beneficial and cost effective to have ALL governing bodies rolled up into one and just a central station, be it the Redding’s or whatever. makes some sense of course. A no goer after 3 seconds of thoughts as we see all the bickering, back stabbing and whinging and power, ego flaunting in every one of them already. Can you see the masses joining up and peace to reign eh! Of course not! Mostly these peoples put into office are not stupid - they get paid to be called and to pee a few of. Everything in life sooner or later costs most yet determinates. So why does one still believe in magic wands and shiny white armour :-/ No millionaire, or billionaire is going to come up with the goods in any aspects, and there are as many state a few in our sport. Why should they? Indeed when their’ egos are more important that the sport it's self. When fanciers just totally can't be bothered and spout 'It makes no difference what I say or want, or VOTE (EEk) they will do as they want, always have and always will'. So stay at home and whinge is my advice and take up knitting lol.

There is an annual contest at University of Texas calling for the most appropriate definition of a contemporary term. This year's term was "Political Correctness." The winner wrote: "Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible .... To pick up a turd by the clean end."

Think great.... only concern would be Air circulation and how many one intends to house in them. My sections are about half as big again. House between 12 and 16 pairs. But then the air is constantly travelling through, around and out.

JonesyBhoy Streeties are kept as a look out..??? WTF..??? Whilst some streeters may be caught via B.O.P. they are by far a lot more alert and quicker of the mark than any of your birds. Always one eye open for danger etc. They will be in the loft as the others follow. Hopefully following close enough not to get caught.

Further in reality if a Father and a Daughter are both proven winners / breeders what the heck does one want to incest breed them? the father and or Mother have proved themselves. Halving the genes for starters and losing a generation and a another season of all important 'Gene / Blood building make no realistic sense at all, and the shortish to long term effects are certainly very detrimental. Fact that.

' .................I feel the two main areas in the RPRA that could be considered a financial luxury are the General Managers position and 'The Reddings'. Do we really need a 'front office' face who serves no administative duties apart from representing the RPRA in the Public Arena & Media. Is the Reddings cost effective or could we downsize and realise a valuable asset.... Simple answer yes we need a governing body. yes of course it is cost effective. Gosh where are we here? :-/ Yes it evolves very much as you say. It has too, or trest assured it wouldn't and that's the fact! Gosh the sad fact of realism is that the members need bullying. Need a body to act in their member’s interests. One that is capable of ignoring most.... Like most I mean those that will spend a fortune anything even though 60% is rubbish. They spend on what the like saying it's my money and I do as I please... (Can’t argue with that!) Yet wouldn't even pay a pound for a P.R. Firm to act in their’ interests. Those that continually *expletive removed* and moan and can’t understand, why that those 'Rich and famous' fanciers that have successful businesses to run CAN'T even put their’ sport to rights for them? Those that whinge and moan about what others tell them because they don't / won't even go to a meeting to vote etc. Won't even post a ballot sheet, but tell everyone else they should be doing this and that, doing so and so and such and such! Simple reality if the RPRA didn't function as they do - like just about every other concern has to- then within 2 years there wouldn’t be a sport to whinge and moan about! Before posting codswallop, a lot ought to ask them selves when they last Voted. Went to a Club meeting - let alone a AGM and strueth certainly not a Regional meeting. A Fed meeting! But they have and want their rights! Their’ voice to be heard etc as it's their Right.... Well go to a meeting and flipping vote because if you had done A. you would have heard long time ago this was on the agenda. And B. Yes you could have exercised your rights and HAD your voice heard and a Vote.

Streeters that enter and take to a loft, are often kept as look outs for BOP. However, when and if they want to stay, just train them with your' youngsters. They will be home and in before yours EVERYTIME. And of course as we know y/b's home faster that O/B's so they will knock the socks of them too. Most, like me, have only ever bother up to say 60 miles. Never sent to races etc. of course. Yes isn't it marvellous also Cloudview that dogs that have been injected for parva still get it and die.... whilst mongrel will wander willy nilly, have it and it has no effect on them. may well become carriers even I suppose. But many are the good fanciers that startd of with 'Churchers' and done well with them. Remember Willis with Bob Oakley collected any and all 'Blacks' from the Gas silos that they wored on and travelled around. Yes none related, and Willis set the Fed alight with them. Indeed sold them of 4 years later to a Stud!
