  1. Having sent an unlucky 13 to the 170 mile race which were held over due to weather conditions saw 11 returning in the showers they met on the way, however I am quite pleased on their return as not one went to the drinker until after a feed which suggests that they were able to look after themselves while in the transporter with "Tiger" looking after them. I have maintained for many a year that holdovers give the birds great experience especially when they have not too far to race home. Returns as usual are erratic with some good some bad but that's Doo racing for you in this day and age..
  2. We all have our opinions and we are OFF TOPIC,, LOL.
  3. Getting a bit of experience in a basket Derek is what is missing nowadays with birds going National racing and never been in a basket over 15 hours due to only race marking put back to save a couple of quid.
  4. Wee Mary and I have spent what felt like a near death experience this past couple of days with the Flu and sincerely hope all can avoid it. How we managed to contract it is worrying especially when we were given our winter Flu jabs last year so perhaps this is another variation. Down in the loft with half the team missing I am down to 26 birds with 5 of them missing feathers with the Bassas and I am really "F" off with the usual RSPB crap how they are looking after our heritage. Aye Stevie the training baskets were out this week and road work commenced due to the flock not exercising. Now they are all down on eggs so they should have regained a good level of fitness in a week or two. Between being chased to nest, losing partners etc some have not been raced since the first race and I feel perhaps a 150 mile jump might see the back of some of them so will send them as trainers with another Fed which is not going down so far. Going over my diaries I came to the conclusion that it is the same families I am losing this year as the ones lost over the past 2 years so I dont expect to have any of them left soon and perhaps the three families left in the loft might get me over the pond. P.S. Finished with 8 from 15 last week and am not alone with serious losses.. You pay good money for stock and all you breed is crap from them which makes you wonder how you can be taken in so easily by clever advertising. But "Hey Ho" I wont be alone in that respect..
  5. Effing disaster for me and I think the team has got the flu instead of the flew with one third of the team home yesterday and last one at 21.40..nothing to-day so far..
  6. Wakefield
  7. Midland up 13.15 S/W wind along with Fauldhouse.
  8. Friday had me ailing for some malady and feeling not quite a 100% wearily picked out half the team to send to Wakefield. Going to the club and wishing it was my bed I was going too could not get uplifted with the result saying the loft was 14th in the Fed last week. As soon as I hit home I was in bed without a nightcap. Still feel rough this morning and notified Midland are up 13.15 S/W wind.. Good luck to all.
  9. Aw depends on the size of yir mits Stevie LOL.
  10. The lad is working on Liquid Ounces for 30 birds so its 30 Ounces divided into 2 feeds all works out.. I personally use Grams with good electronic scales as their is no accuracy in Oz's, or Lbs especially if you require a precise measurement..
  11. According to the BBC weather, Sunday is to be worse than Saturday.
  12. In the loft this evening after their meal I observed three spare Cocks treading each other with a non participating Light Chequer Cock attempting to fight them off each other. The strange thing is it was a Blue Bar yesterday. What a pity there is not an Open Race this week. Not to worry though a handfull of reeds to-morrow scattered about the floor will have them lifted into the nests. For those interested no training was accomplished this week again.
  13. Are you attempting to be facetious ??.
  14. 10 oz morning 20 oz evening would be what I would do.
  15. The difference between Liquid ounce and 28 grams is miniscule so 30 birds will not be far from the mark at 30 Ounces on your jug.
  16. Get yourself a whistle and dont let your birds out for a couple days because what you have to do is blow the whistle when you feed them whether its once or ten times a day just blow the whistle while you feed them. DONT blow the whistle if you are not going to feed them and after a couple of days your birds will recognise the sound and expect to be fed. Get a set of scales and give your birds no more than 28 grams per bird per day of feed it aint a lot but its all they need..I weigh all my daily feed into a bucket and when its empty its empty and they get no more till the next day,, Throwing balls or any kind of missile onto somebodies roof can get you into trouble and that is the last thing you want. Best of luck and enjoy you sport..
  17. Just a bit of light hearted nonsense to relieve the boredom John. :emoticon-0136-giggle:
  18. A two year old Hen returned to-day from Tow Law 11 days past, minus half her tail and some cover flights so that will be another finished for the season. Still it's alive and kicking.. In the loft the flock are still keen on the nests and with them sitting 7-12 days on Saturday I might see them put a bit of extra effort in for the 185 miles. A hand full of reeds and nest condition on Friday will be their only motivation and to be honest they certainly appear to be more alert around the locality never standing still and flapping about the sky makes them a delight to watch and observe those who continually land and take off after a minute or so. As the team are out from 08.15 till 11.00 hrs in the morning with an open loft to come and go as they please I have no problem whistling them in for their 10 grams per bird feed.. Locked in till 15.00 when the loft is again opened till 20,00 Hrs and fed as much as they wish as long as nothing is left after 1 Hour when the feeders are emptied into a dustbin and hung up. With Barley in the mix they dont appear to be heavy and handle round, light and tight, Just the way I want them..
  19. Saturday had me enjoying a beautiful cloudless sky from early in the morning and it was a relief to hear they had been liberated all be it from Otterburn when it should have been Ripon. I reckoned 17.15 would be about right from a 15.35 lib into a North East wind at 85 miles and expecting them from the South East was surprised when one flew over my head from the West and hit the landing board at 17.17 to take Third club beaten by 23 seconds, all except one of my arrivals came back from the West and at the end of the day I had 15 from the 18 Cocks sent with one on the Sunday meant my dropping 2. Quite pleased so far with the team as I am competing against fanciers with nearly 3 times the entries I send so will change nothing. Losses are something we just have to accept in this day and age.. Mind you we had those type of losses 50 years ago so nothing has really changed..
  20. I do not believe there is any coating which is 100% non slip for decking however Heavy Duty Rubber Matting wih holes from Amazon is an Ideal accompanyment to ensure you dont break a leg. I can recommend them..
  21. To cont;- Slaughterdale dae you not mean Slaughterburn alias Otterburn ya dafty says Cheq to all those who could not stop shaking in their feathers and we can make it out of here by going round aw they trees rather than straight over the forest for 20 miles getting ambushed every mile or so say's Cheq, Meanwhile Blue pied is whispering to all his Midland pals and they are in agreement with the tactic Blue Pied has come up with. Shouting out as loud as he can he states see aw they Central birds they are aw fearties and will take the long road round but Central's Chequer shouts back No we're no and when released from the darkness of the stupid wicker baskets they all burst out and head for home. Meanwhile all the Midland mob hang back and leave the Central eejits to plough a furrow through giving them a slower velocity but better safe than dead..
  22. Handed to me by neighbour, Well down in body but will recover.
  23. When I was a youngster my Mum used to take my Brother and I on a mystery tour with no destination advertised on a bus and people used to try and guess where we would end up usually at a seaside resort and I am sure our Fed birds if they could speak they would be saying something along the same lines !!.. Well Cheq whaur dae ye think we're gaun the nicht says White Flight ? Heard the Boss sayin Ripon is the reply.. A couple of hours later the curtains are drawn back and Cheq shouts right lads we are at Ripon and last out is a dumpling.. A couple of hours later and the curtains are shut and Cheq asks all in the basket what the expletive removed* !! where are we going now, Back home is the reply we hope as its a cold wind out there. Two hours later and the curtains are pulled back a wee bit and Black Hen in the next basket says she can see horses out there !! ah well maybe we are going horse racing instead says Cheq pied and all agree except the ladies in the next basket who complain they are not looking their best for a day at the races when the curtains are shut again and with a jolt we are on the move again. What was that all about say's Blue Cock as I did not know they had a Race Course at Tow Law and I remember as I was here last week and the lorry trundles along for another couple of hours.. By this time all are getting a bit anxious and Blue Pied say's We could be at the coast the time we have been in here and a bit off muffled laughter ensues with the ladies in the next basket beginning to shine up to the guys who have not seen a female for a week or two and vice versa, Do you fancy makin it to the first tree we see for a bit of how's your father say's some of the ladies to those Cock's who are trying to get into their basket for nookie when the curtains are pulled back again.. Whaur are we noo is the shout that goes up from a large amount of beaks OH NO its Slaughterdale they cry and we are the menu...To be cont;.
