With the Forth and Clyde canal frozen over all day to-day I postponed my intended vaccination with my helper and now wonder if we could have went ahead for to-morrow as the temp has went from -4 to 4c this evening including a light drizzle. SO if you are reading this John I will call around 0900 Hrs Saturday to ascertain if you are still available.

All is well with the colony with Bloom and Down feathers in abundance, putting in a good shift when out exercising, Appetite has seen them clearing 1oz in jig time and droppings are perfect round balls which drop from the plastic "V" perches so its only a scrape round the nest boxes and floor taking up 12 minutes of my time, This month will see me vaccinating all with Colombovac which is my preference and has been since day one.

Used them for years, Best in the business.

Aye Derek be a sheep and do what everybody else does !!!, Anyway 2018 was an exceptional year for you and well done, Do you think the ATX Heater I let you steal from me had any part to play in your success ??, A very Happy 2019 to you and the family.

With the colony refusing to take a bath this past month the loft has a heavy coating of Bloom, At least I think its Bloom as I have not seen any of the inmates with a brush and tin of white emulsion. With them turning in at least 2 Hrs of unforced exercise I am quite happy regardless of other comments from those who would go against Nature and keep them ensconced within over the Winter period, breeding youngsters instead. Totally Unnatural..

In a recent phone conversation with a very good friend he asked when I would be pairing up ?, When I told him the 17th March his reply was that it was too late and do myself a favour,, So the old memory bank was put to use, As if it was yesterday and to be perfectly honest all the top fanciers paired round about St Patrick's Day which is the 17th March this coming year and I will be pairing then..

Delivering Xmas presents to my daughter, Findlay, [son in Law] mentioned "stupidly" that as he has not had a day of work this year he would treat himself to a fortnight loafing around the house, That was all I required to shovel in that I had slipped on the floor of the Loft with rain blowing in on the Westerlies making it deadly to Wee Mary, That was all I said and he appeared the following day and rectified the problem by re-installing and converting the window into a fixed louvre which is what I had in the Seventies.. When he had completed the job to our complete satisfaction I mentioned my new Green House and that will be erected when there is no chance of frost to damage the concrete base, I wont push my luck any further till then.. :emoticon-0136-giggle:

Down in the loft to-day and informed all the colony it was Xmas Day and if they performed like Turkeys next year they will not be seeing another Xmas Day. LOL. I would just like to wish all my mates, A very Merry Xmas.. :santa-dance:

With the sky turning Blue and white the last couple of days and the birds feed reduced the Hens have returned to 90 minutes exercise daily in a tight ball with plenty of vigour. I have always when entering the loft in the morning checked out the droppings for firmness and white topped also where they are in the nest boxes as they stand on a wooden block and I expect the manure pile to be next to it and not covering the entire box, When like this then one knows they are not being disturbed when roosting and the environment is as it should be.

Aye Steve, Why don't you ask your Dad if its Bonkers as you suggest..

Some have eyes that they can see, And some have eyes that cannot.. You are obviously the latter..

Dozing in my chair the other day had me contemplating the theory of clairvoyance in pigeons as I have noticed over the years that when a partner is sent to a race while the other remains in the loft perhaps sitting eggs, should it lift off the nest then rest assured the partner sent will not be returning that day or never to be seen again, Likewise should the stay at home partner start looking for another mate then all is detrimental to the one sent. Nothing worse when you have only sent a lone candidate ! Even worse when you have pooled it to the hilt..

Before anyone replies that they were doing 90 minutes a Month ago, Why not now, Well the weather in the Metropolis this past couple of weeks has been a wee bit atrocious so freedom was not an option and loft bound was the answer.

Not having any Late Breeds this Winter the Hens are not too keen on going "running" as was the case in years past and with them finally through the moult I will shorten the rations in an attempt to get them going longer than the 30/40mts they are putting in. Sample results returned an all clear so that is one worry out the way but being a pessimist something else will no doubt turn up to upset the equilibrium. Still waiting for a date to have surgery on my shoulder and has given me a good excuse for not doing any housework or taking Wee Mary shopping.

Jim Renwick organised "Scotland's Own" Annual and Dinner. His son Dale is a member of Basics and I believe a member of Fauldhouse Club, No doubt someone will inform you his whereabouts.

Project "Fear" is what the remainers spout at every opportunity and cannot for the life of me see trucks at a standstill in ferry ports as there will be tit for tat should the occasion arise, One has to remember the U.K. imports more from Europe than we export to them. On a personal note I cannot wait until we join the WTO and receive the option of better quality feed for our birds with Tasmanian Maples and good quality American corn.
