Last year - we sent one particular bird to 260 miles - and then the following week 447 miles
he was nowhere at 260 miles - but 2nd club at 447 miles in a stinker of a race (14 hours+ on wing)
I don't know DJ - but it shouldn't stop bird from flying
Hope they're not your hands DJ
They're in great need of TLC and a good moisturiser - not to mention a manicure (evil)

If you can hook the bowls to the sides of the cage - cable ties or the twisters that you use for polythene bags - it might hold them in place
If you ring the person in Cumbria - and ask if he would mind the two going up to Cumbria - insist on separate boxes from the courier - it happened to me once - where a fancier put another bird (in a separate box) sending it closer to home - there isn't usually any extra charge anyway
01536 is Kettering
I can find only one club in Kettering on the club llist for 2009 - its a long shot
EM100 HARROWDEN S R H S

Up North Combine liberated 18,000+ birds at Lillers at 6.00am
Durham Combine liberated at 5.40am (Lillers) No wind
West Durham liberated at 6.00am (Arras?) No wind
Good Luck all
What about the flexibility of the wing?
I was looking at the wings / flights of some of the birds today - and most 'snapped' them back - except one - whose wing seemed totally different - it was 'relaxed' - hard to describe really - the latters sire won at 400 miles - but would say the majority of my birds would be classed as 'sprinters'
The club the bird is registered to is:
