  1. It hatched out OK - will wait to see how youngster progresses before ringing it, but is feeding well and gaining plenty of weight
  2. One of our club members used an old sheet cut down with elastic threaded through (not too tightly) that slips over the base of his baskets and up the sides it would also do for widowhood cocks and hens to stop them from 'seeing' each other
  3. Lovely in Redcar yesterday and today - I was mixing corn with a short sleeved T-shirt on, it felt really warm, sunny this morning slight cooling wind.
  4. Makes you wonder why it is only for export? (and it is not approved in the UK...)
  5. You certainly can't in our area
  6. Your Union probably stipulates the scale (ours does) Had a carry on with one of our new members measurements and got copies from library but the local 'measurer' wouldn't accept them - so ended up paying £80 at (I think) Servicepoint - then he apologised and said a smaller one (for a fiver) would have done (a bit late then !!)

You're not the only one (shrug) Won't be sending to the first 2 races
  8. Is he in the telephone directory? www.bt.com residential number....
  9. You can't send unrung birds to races - full stop - breaks all rules - DEFRA regulations not adhered to for starters (vaccination sheet requires ring numbers)
  10. Don't know (evil) If Blacks are classed as blues they will be hens I suppose - if you have had her paired to a blue/chequer before - what sex were they then?
  11. (scared)(scared)(scared)(kewl)
  12. Red/mealie will be cocks and blues will be hens I bet you don't get a strawberry mealie (hehe)
  13. My point is that they're breaking the law - and its bad enough when fanciers do it underhand - its a darn sight worse when they're getting help from professionals to do it Live vaccine can transfer to unvaccinated birds in the basket through their droppings
  14. How can you get a live vaccine from a vet if it's not approved by DEFRA?
  15. Well I don't take them with me (evil) One of our club members looks after ours - normally its out of season, but he's looking after them for a couple of days next week.
  16. One of them
  17. It WAS hatching yesterday

    HELP!!

We still haven't rung all our birds yet (and still have 5 FUTURITY rings (shrug) ) A pair we were going to put FUT rings on were chipping out yesterday - one did - and was trampled - the other is still alive in a very sqashed egg - but looks weak now (you can see the beak and part of face - egg is squashed further down) Do I just 'wait and see'? I might add - the cock is 10 years old and the first round was clear
  19. T3's don't need 3 way testing either
  20. I'll PM you my phone number - you can tell my husband (he won't listen to me) (shrug) (evil)
  21. Our club got a grant last year for ETS - so this is the first year we are (reluctantly) using it, I don't like the traps as the birds are used to open door - and the birds are reluctant to go through them (I can see us returning to our T3's after the first 2 races !!)
  22. Well, here they are 28 days old - still small - but perfectly formed !!
  23. There are a few products on the list that we use for pigeons. However I am not sure that the dose would be the same as stated for poultry. Toltrazuril - is also known as Baycox to us - and is a good treatment for coccidiosis, and there are a few treatments for worms and antibiotics for serious infections - BUT - if you cannot recognise the illness in the birds, you will still be stabbing in the dark treating them. (whatever you buy) You need more knowledge about pigeons. One of the items on the list is an acidifier - which I use on my birds - that should hopefully keep the birds insides in check so that any bad bacteria doesn't get a hold - to make the birds ill. But viruses you can't really guard against or treat (it is not easy keeping pigeons !!!)
