Had my first young bird race last week, they were trained to about 35 miles, coast and inland - but in previous years we have only managed to get them to 25 miles, and they were fine

All my birds have telephone number rings on - old and young - but it seems you are more likely to get birds reported from non fanciers than fanciers. I report all birds if I can and try and get them as close to home as possible, but I want to make sure they're heading in the right direction first, there's a few of my club mates for instance got SHU rung birds!! I have one in at the moment that is not wingstamped, but a PM to a member in the club on a pigeon site with my phone number, and I had a call within 2 hours from the owner - the youngster was lost off the loft - so wouldn't have made it home, but is being collected. I report strays regardless of being stamped or not - it's not the birds fault and I'm sure in most cases the owners will be happy to have them back. I know I would.

Its fungal infection isn't it - very common in humans just with one course of antibiotics - there doesn't have to be any 'abuse' for it to happen

They may or may not have clashed, but from what I saw of the North Roaders - they were well up in the sky - and the Up North Combine were flying quite low

If you are flying South Road a South East wind forces the birds to the west and a South West wind forces the birds to the East (is that what you mean?) South East winds make for a faster race as well change the 'south' for 'north' and its the same - only slower cos its a head wind
