  1. after the war there were fanciers in the uk adopted this method, some top national men included,i wouldnt be over bothered about this unless there are health issues with the birds. :)
  2. i thought that today more than ever people are aware of the geographical advantages of loft location, the fanciers in the west section approach each national season with the hope of a top open position in snfc races with the thought of a national win very slim, there is also the chance of timing your pooler as this section has a good pooling tradition, why then would the fanciers of e and f want to include fanciers some 40 miles east of them, the regions or sections what ever way you slice it will never be perfect now is not the time for change, the national has far more pressing issues to attend to at the moment. :-/
  3. fantastic. :) :) more of these races please.
  4. dont care, just about perfect, more races like this required with more 500-600 milers on the shift, nothing like these races for putting a smile on fanciers faces. :)
  5. remember the race well sent 4 timed 3 in 90 mins on the shift, up 5.30am timed the 4th a 10yr old hen in my boxers, won the region, 21 years old at the time pure magic 614mls,sorry about the nostalgia but thats what national racing does to you. :) :)
  6. clock was up for approval at scottish homing union october meeting,to answer franks question it has a spring loaded shutter.
  7. getting tired, had a long day, were you at the shows today???
  8. dont think the north section is being frozen out at all, this years gold cup race was exceptional for the north section as have been the last 10 years into the north, there are a lot of snfc members flying into disadvantaged areas outwith section g.
  9. not just section e,dont think the few glasgow fed snfc members in places like clydebank, dumbarton & milton of campsie will be too keen, the proposer of this hopefully non starter never took geography at school. ;)
  10. not sure, but must say past races from belgium have been very good both racing and return wise.
  11. ;D ;D ;D .alec.
  12. no, and no diplomas through the door either!!!!!!
  13. hotrod, maybe the use of the word "winning" was wrong,i know leslie davidson never won a national, maybe should have said scoring, afraid over the years i have used the word "winning" for all birds on a national result as i see this as the holy grail of racing!!!!!!!!!!! cheers AG.
  14. bang on hotrod, captain leslie of gourock won nantes snfc 1932 with "le ander" and came very close a year or two later with "the pug"from the same racepoint, leslie davidson was also a top fancier over 500mls winning with the west coast combine, snfc and also recorded a bird in the sixties from i think san sebastian over 1000mls.
  15. hotrod read your post again and stand corrected with regards the geography, although the national gold cup returns on the shift over the last 20-30 years have to say the least been poor.cheers alec.
  16. hi, north glasgow.
  17. IB, very honest answer, amazed at some of the quotes regarding wing time and distance flown and also percentages homing from 550mls into west central scotland on the shift, myself have been racing and scoring snfc 500-680 mls for 30 years, doos on the shift at 550mls into west central scotland are like hens teeth [very scarce] just a wee point highlighting the hardship of distance racing into the west section with very few fanciers and birds achieving the ultimate goal!!!
  18. the people running clubs feds combine nationals and unions are i suppose "pigeon politicians" and without them where would we be,very easy and popular to do nothing, most of these fanciers give up time and also sometimes fame for the good of running our sport.not a go at you personally but if more fair minded fanciers would dip their foot in the water maybe we could move forward. :)
  19. in the 50s the local laird had a curling tournament for the villagers on the local loch and at half time the cook from the "big hoose" would come on to the ice in a horse and cart with hot soups & rolls for all.very very cold. :) :) :)
