Improvement In Our Sport
Walter swanston replied to budgie's topic in Pigeon Politics, Rules & Regulations
Excellent idea Frank I would be happy to introduce and support such an proposal in my own federation.I can also well imagine the howls of protest.Things have got to change and modernise to keep pigeon racing alive. -
Improvement In Our Sport
Walter swanston replied to budgie's topic in Pigeon Politics, Rules & Regulations
1.Flexibility in the race programmes so that they are not carved in stone. 2.Small clubs joining together there is strength in numbers 3.Federations managed and controlled by younger men with a passion for this sport. 4.Controllers and convoyers given support withoout needless criticsim. 5.Co-operation and dialogue between federations so that they can join together and save money. 6.Contact with Unikon and Tauris about the price of ETS rings. 7.Contact with RSPB about the hawk problem 8.Federations should have more frequent contact with SHU think about committee meetings through computers or video. Hows that for a start? I am prepared to spend the winter engaging fanciers on these and similiar matters -
Gadaffi wants toappear in Edinburgh Sheriff Court provided he gets the same jury as the guy that didnae assult the celtic manager

The guy who told you to dispose of the pigeon should not be in pigeon fancying. You are completely blameless but stuff like this on an internet site gives us all a bad name.

Yes very well done Kenny many congratulations

Race Controller
Walter swanston replied to REDROCKET's topic in Pigeon Politics, Rules & Regulations
Race controller is arguably the most important and responsible job in pigeon racing and anyone brave enough to take it on has to accept that his decisions are going to be examined in minute detail by his fellow fanciers many of whom do not have acess to the detailed weather information and geographical knowledge of racepoints and contact with other federations that the controller has. If a federation can find a good controller he is well worthy of hanging onto .The Solway Federation has an excellent controller who has proved his worth on many occasions over the years. -
Yes I am afraid so Steven

Ayrshire Fed
Walter swanston replied to JohnQuinn's topic in Website News, Views & Computer Related Info
Many congratulations to the Ayrshire Federation on their new web site. The Solway Fed site has been up for almost 5 years now and has proved increasingly popular with the members with around a 100 hits most weekends not to mention hits from all over the world this is quite definetly one of the ways forward for fanciers,Good luck to Ayrshire with their site -
Lockerbie 103 pigeons to Worksop
-
All you can do is follow the best weather advice you can get and then make a (hopefully) informed decision.Of course we might get it wrong but as I have painfully learned in running a pigeon federation you are damned if you do and damned if you do`nt.
-
The Solway Federation is also delaying the race from Stainmore by 24 hours now basketing on Saturday night for a race on Sunday.

Transporters And Operators License
Walter swanston replied to a topic in Pigeon Politics, Rules & Regulations
Gareth Rankin is correct in saying that it is a grey area I have consulted both the police and the traffic comissioners on this point and they both react with some reluctance over being pressed on the issue ( they hate being quoted) but so far as I can learn as long as the vehicle is being used for the benefit of the members of a pigeon organisation and not for hire or reward or for profit it would seem that an operators licence is not rquired. It has been pointed out to me that should the birds of another organisation be conveyed at a price that this action would bring it into the realm of hire or reward.Hope this helps. -
The last post is absolutely correct there is an unfortunate dearth of younger men in the management of the pigeon fancy I am reluctant to do so but I can think of at least three maybe four whoI should be encouraged to play a more prominent part.I definetly ain`t gonnae name names

Delboy, my post was put up because it is sometimes disheartening to see all your work go down the swannee,be assured that so far in a long life I have never depended on anyone else for anything
-
All I want to do is fly racing pigeons and as far as possible stay within the law where the peregrine problem is concerned and it does not seem to me to be an outrageous ambition and I am certainly not my own worst enemy and any fancier on this site will confirm how soul destroying it can be to spend months rearing and cosseting lovely young racing pigeons to see them killed.
-
The situation around Moffat is that I am trying to train young birds at the same time as three pairs of Peregrine Falcons are actively training their progeny to kill pigeons. It is a complete nightmare and one wonders at ones sanity in continuing in the pigeon game, it cannot go on forever like this
-
This (Pigeons Basic) is the best pigeon site on the internet and I am grateful to all who give of their time and effort to run it.
-
Good for you George I am glad you have a choice I do`nt
-
If you live in Northern Dumfrieshire and you want to aspire to be a pigeon fancier birds of prey are a fact of life and we have no alternative but to use the M74 corridor for training.I think the same might apply to South Lanarkshire and no amount of comments will shange that fact
-
I have now had three tosses Ecclefechan to Moffat (about 21 miles) fairly good results so far dropped three I think but strangely I have lost three 2010 late breds being trained with the young birds..I paqssed a fancier releasing birds just south of Wamphray but was unable to stop and speak to him because of traffic. He was releasing at a bad spot for falcons

Does anyone know which new printer is compatible with the Unikon system. It has to have a parallel port and a USB port(I think}
