I don't think that it's red mite.....have spoken to someone today who think it may well have been because I was in the loft with the hen waiting for her to lay - he thinks I disturbed her!! How would I know if I have red mite? The other birds are all OK - four hatched today.

So, when these eggs hatch could I move the fantails out of the dovecote and into the loft? It was good advice (thanks Silverwings) to put plastic eggs in the nestbox and see if they set them.....both eggs got knocked on the floor!

How about a putting a bright light outside when it's dark to attract them out?
