Thanks again. Don't know why I worried, the noise didn't bother them and I don't think they've even noticed that the forty foot pine trees have disappeared. Trapping with no problem.

Thanks everyone - much appreciated.

I wonder if someone could help me... I'm having four big conifer trees cut down today, they are right up to the rear of the loft and I was wondering if all the noise would trouble the pigeons? Would I be better basketing and removing them them whilst the wood cutters are here? Another thought - these trees are massive - much bigger than the house - will the birds still find their way back to the house and into the loft when it looks totally different? Thanks.

Hi Ted, yes, improving slowly thanks, on inhaler but will never go in loft without a mask now. Hi Lindsay thankyou. Babybird - How's the dove release going?

Trapped in with my whites on Tuesday. It has no RPRA ring on but does have two coloured clip rings. It might have joined mine in Eccles, Manchester or Rising Bridge. If it's yours send me a PM. If no one claims it, it can have a home here - it's quite happy in with my Ybs.

Thanks guys. often lurking but not posted much....

Done. Hope they are successful.

I lost my mother in February so know just how you are feeling. It does get easier, take each day at a time. You will get there.

I cut mine with an electric saw - no problem.

Apologies if this has been posted before and I missed it. I have found a useful distance calculator on Google - OK, I know pigeons don't fly in a straight line but this is a lot better than looking at the distance by road from A to B. Hope it's useful to someone. http://www.daftlogic.com/projects-google-maps-distance-calculator.htm

It's good to know that they're keeping up Phil. Jimmy White had one racing which was doing very well - when he returns to PB I'll ask how it's doing.

I am so proud of my birds - they are so clever returning home no matter where I take them. In five years I have lost only one Logan on it's flight home. I'm not keen on the big wattles on the old cock, there again, I'm not keen on the wrinkles I'm getting in my old age!
-
That's good. I'd put water in too - it will keep them up in the nest box longer - less chance of them flying down early and getting scalped.
-
They will be almost ready to wean. Put a pot of food in their nest box so that they can see the cock feeding and they will soon start pecking themselves.

My thanks to Cosmic for collecting and taking this bird in. Yet another I sold that hadn't been transferred, so guess who got the phone call!!
-
You have moved it out of the loft away from the others? My friend splinted a strays badly broken leg with a matchstick and sellotape. The bird made a good recovery and, when I returned it to it's owner, it turned out it was a prize winner and he sent me a cheque for £30!! Hope your missing bird works it's way back.

He'll come in when he's hungry enough. Thanks for keeping us updated.

Is anyone covering the Doncaster area with 'dove' release? I have had three enquiries over the past two weeks and could pass future ones on if anyone is interested.
-
Is it a racing pigeon? Might not be. Can you post a photo of it? I know you said you were contemplating starting up, now this bird has got you interested.......this forum is the place to ask questions and find out all about it.

I know just how she feels. I've had to bring my one and only remaining garden fantail into the loft. Do you still have them out in the dovecote?
-
Thank you all the people who ordered and bought birds from me this year. I have finished breeding now and have no more birds for sale. Sorry to those who are still enquiring. I am seriously wondering whether I will bother next year - I am fed up of people ordering birds and then changing their minds when the birds are ready, promising payment has been sent when it hasn't, not replying to PMs, asking for my phone number to arrange collection then contacting too late after the birds should have gone. I was messed around last year so this year decided to ask for deposits on birds - many people who ordered didn't pay the deposit- no worries, it sorted out the serious buyers. Yet I still had problems! Is it just me or does everyone get messed around so much?
-
You can't release fantails, they won't return home and would die. Use a dove release company - they use white racing/homing pigeons. Try here.. http://www.spiritofadove.co.uk/

Hi Steph, Thank you for caring about this lost bird. If you can catch him, bring him in. He will go in a cat carrier or even loose in a shed. Whether you can catch him or not, a good feed and a deep (about "2) dish of water will help him. If you have wild bird seed, give him a good handful of that and he will pick out the seeds he recognises. He might just be hungry and tired and in a couple of days can continue on his journey home. If you can give us a definite ring number, someone on here will help you to locate his owner.

Stick to the whites Damian and never say the word 'pigeon', call them 'white doves' and the neighbours will love them.
