  1. Battening down the hatches in the NW tonight. I've just got in from lugging heavy stones up onto the loft roof..I don't want to lose the felt like last time! >
  2. This featured on our local news today. My heart goes out to this poor guy. :'( http://www.thisislancashire.co.uk/display.var.2105097.0.pensioners_anguish_at_sick_arsonists.php
  3. I'll do one for you if the wedding is in NE Lancs. The Rapido Man has contracts all over - he might be worth a try. I don't know where the releases originated. It is big in the States and I know that they do them in Greece too. The Dove symbolises love, peace and new beginnings and of course they pair for life. Some people even theme the whole wedding around the doves. You could release the birds from a display cage or a heart shaped basket or, even each hold a dove and release them together. You could then have another basket with a dozen or so birds in and release these to represent the love of your family and friends. The photographer needs warning how fast the release is and, I always take a spare pair of birds lest, as has happened :, he misses the birds entirely!! ;D Sue
  4. He was on here not long ago. Are you sure your PMs are working? I've had a few go astray!! :-/
  5. I imported them. The shipping is about the same cost as the baskets. http://www.nepigeonsupplies.com/catalog.php?page=2&category=Carriers%20%26%20Baskets
  6. I've found, what I think is, a great site for the weather. It will be easy to check the weather on the line of flight and you can even look at local web cams to see conditions for yourself. http://www.weatherbonk.com/ Sue
  7. Hmm, I'd wondered about these. My dovecote fantails always choose to build their nests with sb twigs but they are always on dummy eggs. I wondered if the twigs might pierce the babies skin when they first hatch - they look so delicate. :-/
  8. They need food and water in front of them 24/7 when they are feeding youngsters. Also grit and minerals. I would just replace the next eggs with dummy eggs until you get your new loft. If you haven't room to put a second nest bowl in the nestbox the birds will just find a corner of the loft to nest especially if you are using deep litter. Once they have laid you cannot move the eggs or they will abandon them.

    Rings

Yes, you'll need to join the RPRA, you will then get a loft number and be able to buy their rings.
  10. I am so sorry Jimmy, such a young age too. I'm sure that the money you raised must have helped many other cancer victims. Suex :K)
  11. It can be corrected. Aalthough this is a feral juvenile pigeon, I see no reason why it shouldn't work just the same on a racer. take a look at these photos and text below. http://outdoors.webshots.com/album/193589827zTYswz
  12. Or a hawk's been in them and scared the brains out of them. :-/
  13. That's some achievement Jimmy. Hope your sister managed to find a donor. Sue :K)
  14. Cheers Sapper. :K) :K)
  15. Is there any chance the birds could be posted on here rather than in a pdf file? There is one member trying to look who can't get his laptop to open pdf files :-/ :-/ he clicks on save to disc then ok but nothing happens???
  16. Drain plugs!! Brilliant idea, why didn't I think of that? : (Don't answer! And no, I'm not blonde!! ;D)
  17. I bought one of those underbed storage boxes as a bath for in the sputnik- it's ideal....sides not too deep and fits all the boys in no problem!!
  18. A couple of my stock Logans are from Ted Saunder's (via Snowy). I do know that he raced these birds from Barcelona, though with how much success I don't know. Maybe Snowy can throw some light on this???
  19. LOL ;D ;D I'll add one to that People who live in glass houses should.........get undressed in the dark. This was from a primary school child.
  20. Enjoyed watching these, thanks.
  21. Thanks Billy, I did do this with the first eggs but, as I didn't get them the before the first freezing night it was too late. It may not have been the frost, it could well have happened anyway. :-/
  22. Out of ten eggs laid over the cold snap, four were empty.
  23. None from first round Ben. Have got orders for second round coming in now, as I said before, first come, first served.
  24. Well, I think we've established the size of your loft :-/ You will have more than enough room for 60 pigeons. Yes, you could just add one pair and they will breed away quite happily for you; their sons and daughters will also pair up and breed but, you wouldn't really want all your birds to come from one pair. Do you intend to race? If so you need to obtain some good racing pigeons. I suggest that you find a club, near you, and ask successful members there if they will breed you some young birds to start you off.
  25. I ring all mine so I know which birds are breeding good youngsters and also which birds have flown on which days and in which direction. My birds are trained out to all points of the compass but some people train their birds in teams - one team north, one south etc. You could use coloured rings if you are doing this but I prefer to be able to identify the birds individually.
