I think that he needs his tail...do you have somewhere you can keep him away from your tame birds? I wouldn't release him!

They were all lined up till I went in to take the photo and the end one moved!

I've never seen a bird tagged like this! Maybe it has escaped from a sanctuary?

When you say it doesn't go to roost...do you mean that it stays on the ground at night? If it does, wait till it's dark then go and pick it up and bring it in before a cat takes it. I'm trying to find a link that shows you how to trap a pigeon in a box....

Hamstergirl.... If you have food in front of them all the time, it might be that your hen is too fat to lay!!! Try feeding just once a day and removing the food after ten minutes.

If it's two days since the first baby hatched then I'd be inclined to remove the other egg as it will make a heck of a mess if it breaks. Replace it with a potato, it helps to stop a single youngster developing splayed legs. Sue

No, I hadn't used anything. One of the pair hatched and is doing fine. Maybe just one of those things.

It's a thrill everytime I breed babies but, there's nothing quite as exciting as the first time. It's a lovely baby, I wonder what colour it will end up being??

I flew my birds on open loft, with a sputnik, for two years until a cat found the loft! The cat has gone now, but I'll never risk it again. :'(

I'm not sure about the peanuts causing the runny droppings. Her water dish sounds fine, lucky choice. You could try adding a couple of drops of vinegar to her water. Cider vinegar would be best but, if you don't have that then ordinary vinegar would do. That should help tp dry them up unless there is an underlying illness causing it. :-/ So, it's a girl is it? ;D I've been saying 'he' !! ;D I'm no expert, hopefully some more knowledgeable members can offer advice re the droppings.

Thirty peanuts is rather a lot, they love peanuts and will gorge themselves given chance. Do you have any wild bird food or dried peas? Have you given him a deep dish of water? They dip their beaks almost to their nostrils to suck up the water. The owner should contact you now to arrange for the bird to be collected. He might arrange for another fancier to pick it up or, he will arrange for a courier (usually Amtrak) to collect it. Don't let the bird out, he will most probably not return and may not be lucky enough to find someone as kind as you next time. He doesn't need exercise now, he needs a long rest as he will be exhausted from trying to find his way home when he got lost.

I very rarely loose them Tractorboy but, I take it very slowly - as soon as they stop squeaking, when I handle them, I take them 1/4 mile then 1/2, then 1, then 5 then 15 in each direction after that I jump them out to 30. If the birds always fly south then, I suppose that the first time you release them from a different direction, they'll strike south and it will take them a while to orientate themselves. Mine have a surprise every time I let them go and they are used to it! ;D
