Hello, welcome to Pigeonbasics.
-
Race point was Lockerbie. Any help getting even one back to there owners would be appreciated. Just found out it is costing £5 per pigeon as well when they come in the stray basket. Racing is certainly proving to be an increasingly expensive hobby. But we'll pay our dues and bring them home where we can.

Ayrshire fed had a bad race as well, we are still waiting for 14 out of 20 from 64 miles and we are one of the better lofts for returns.
-
We had one went full of air a few days after coming out of the nest. Pierced chest wall and put a tube in place and gave the pigeon a squeeze after a couple of days it was fine again with no set backs. Completed the YB race programme without any problems.

Got in touch with Mr Hill and he will send a courier for the pigeon next week. Thanks to the WHU office for rooting through the paperwork to find the contact details.

Thanks found the registered owner. He hasn't raced since late 1990's and doesn't know who now owns the bird, he will send someone in to collect the bird next week. Thanks for your help.

Looking for anyone who has pigeons in the Kingstamerton area of Plymouth. I've come down from Scotland to visit a friend and have collected a couple of Irish pigeons to go back with me. I will be here till Monday and need to feed them where's best place to buy a small bag of pigeon feed? Went to Newquay today to collect the pigeons and one of the ladies who took one in is from Penzance and said it is shocking to see so many pigeons lying dead and dying in the streets, she counted sixty in one street alone with flocks of pigeons still flying around. Local council has clean up teams clearing them away. She did ask for rings to be collected so she could pass them on and let the owners know the out come of there birds but was told the pigeons were a"Bio Hazard" and they couldn't let her have any. Just hope some of them find the strength to make there way home.

Thanks for the info. Will call and arrange getting pigeon home. I'm going to Plymouth on Thursday and then to Belfast for an ETS demo the following Thursday so I might be able to collect it and take it across with me.

Anyone heard of any birds in Ayrshire yet?

We have a 15 year old hen who laid one normal and one very small egg. We let them both hatch and as you would expect one fine and one tiny. Little one didn't open it's eyes till 10 days and was 14 days before it was rung. Had to move it to another nest as it was getting chilled when parents started sitting off the nest. When it died at 30 days it was still the size of a normal 10 day old. Quills didn't split to allow feathers to develop and when stood on flat surface it wasn't able to support it's own weight. Nest mate is fine and flying round the loft no problem.

Oops must have missed them. Thanks Clockman for emailing them. Joan

I emailed the secretary yesterday asking same question, still waiting for an answer. Suppose we'll get the results when there ready.

We can get 20 + emails and phone calls a week during the racing season regarding lost racing pigeons, with the odd roller etc thrown in. We are always polite and do our best to help fanciers and non fanciers alike reunite a lost pigeon with its owner. This evening while trying find a telephone number for a club secretary I phoned a couple of other secretary's from the same Fed who were less than the ideal front for our hobby. One made a comment about women and pigeons and hung up, another used some choice words and told me to p!** off and hung up, the third after lecturing me about what did I think the SHU was for finally gave me a contact number. Thanks to him the pigeon is now on it's way back to it's own loft. I know it can get to be a bit of a scunner when the 7th 8th or 10th person has phoned that day gushing about how they have saved this beautiful but poor racing pigeon from the neighbours cat, if they happen to call you please remember they don't know they are not always the 1st. Why can't people just be polite and say sorry they can't help. If I had been a nonfancier I would have certainly had 2nd thoughts about contacting anyone in pigeons again.
