  1. Lol haven't met a man yet that actually listens, Must say that the nice "peeps" must be in the majority, to be truthful can't think of any ocassion where anyone hasn't at least said Hello. even get the odd wave when I pass other folk waiting to get here pigeons picked up for training.
  2. Fantastic if the pigeons can go Saturday for Scotland, Hubby can't be there so I get to time. ;D Yee Haa
  3. Thanks for the welcome. Alf I usually train along the A71 starting in Kilmarnock heading out to the Shawlands hotel at Larkhall, do a few runs to Carnwath as well. I meet quite a few different guys out with there pigeons and it's a bit like walking a dog, folk will stop and talk, but walk down the park or stand and stare at the sky on your own and folk give you funny looks. ;D
  4. My husband keeps racing pigeons, he was brought up with them and we have had a loft in our own garden since his Dad passed away 10 years ago. Anyway my input is helping where and when I can. My main job is taking the pigeons training, I have a trailer that I tow, the usual contents are our own pigeons and other flyers from our town and one or two others from surrounding towns. Making the coffee and dealing with strays that we get phone calls and emails about. I have spoken to more pigeon men in the last few weeks than I have over the past 2 years, the number of youngsters being reported seems to have increased this year. Now I know this site is here I can try here as well. Though most of them are SHU and easy to find, thanks to the wee book of ring numbers produced each year. My hobby is showing dogs, so spend a lot of hours driving the length and bredth of the UK, I take the odd pigeon with me if I can liberate it in or near it's home town. I'm not always at the loft on a race days but I do keep in touch to hear how things are going. Enjoying reading the posts on the forum.
  5. Sorry!! Everyone is always looking for easier ways to do things. Would love to see the race as the pigeons see it, quite a story I would think. Shame it isn't available now, would love to find this seasons youngsters.
  6. At the end of the day it comes down to cost. How much would you be willing to spend on a system to help you find your pigeons? Initial cost for computer software combined with £??? per unit per bird plus monthly fees for GPS or GPRS connection could add up to a bit more than most loft winnings. Would be good for watching special races, but don't think I'd fancy sitting at the computer watching dots on a map each Saturday. Soon won't need a human in the loft. Watch them racing via a tracking system, ETS for timing all thats needed is ring off via internet to the local club / fed and you won't need to leave the house. What would be the point.
  7. Hi, Boomerang Will have to ask him, don't know the first thing about it except that it is his company and it puts the feed in the trough for the birds. They do trackers for cars and all that kind of stuff, my dogs are microchipped and are only traceable if scanned by a scanner which id's the dogs unique number, but you can't track them. There is a device they are looking at that costs £250 and will text a gps location to you, but the battery life is only 24 hours, so he has his design guy working on something similar but better. (hopefully) One of my friends had a radio thing for his Harris hawk, but that is different again to being able to sit at your computer and pinpoint you birds on a map.
  8. Slugmonkey, Where did you see trackers for 25.00 and monitoring for $40? My husband has a company that does tracking things and I know that they are looking at something for his pigeons and hopefully for my dogs. At present all my dogs are protectecd by a device in there show cruiser and if anyone moves it outside a 50m radius at the dog shows I get an alarm text message straight to my phone with there co-ordinates, and if needs be they can be tracked from my home computer. Biggest problem seems to be getting something small, lightweight and inexpensive. Wish they would hurry then we wouldnt have to worry about where any of our pigeons are.
  9. Hi, If you are able email details to sites like www.doglost.co.uk www.lostdogsuk.com www.nationalpetregister.org These are some of the first sites our friends use if dogs go missing. Dog lost helped one friend get her dog back 12 months to the day after it was stolen from her back garden.
