Yearlings Missing 2013, Darkness/natural 2012
hotrod replied to ForestForever74's topic in Notice Board
As most know I don't race my youngsters or if I do then its one or two races at most , I have lost 2/3 rds of my yearlings up to now , half of them training , quite sure Percy has lts to do with that , but other guys in club that have raced their youngsters right out are no better than me % wise , it's the same when yearlings ,IMHO. Gone are the days when u could send them all out to the later races, even the coast . I think if you can get them out to Leicester distance 270 odd miles then they are worth putting bye till next year . -
We,Glasgow, got it hard today as well , prob a wee bit better than some , but not much .
-
2/4 from Leicester with Glasgow fed , ps two proper pigeons home , waiting on two yearlings , which I quite fancied today as well .
-
Calladonian combine away at 8.30 am at Leicester in bright conditions and was sunny , birds cleared high and well, out of sight in minutes. Good luck to all racing today
-
Spot on mate , I've been using it for 30 odd years although not in the drinker but the bath every week , and yes great for athletes foot , 3/4days and away it goes . Oh and good for keeping the lice off the birds as well .
-
Whereabouts in Glasgow are you mate ? I could point you inthe right direction ?
-
Ended up with only. 7/10 missing 3 handy pigeons. One was my fancy ,I was only going to send 6. Then thought about it being a great weekend weather wise , if would have just sent the 6. My time in would have been. 20.42 and would have only. 3/6 Crazy race
-
Thanx mate ,told him to let the yearling near Sheffield and will drop the older one near Peterborough this week
-
I think the problem is that Leicester lies in th middle of the country in fact just about dead centre ,and if its an easterly wind then they come up the west of the Pennines , but should be ok for the Lanarkshire if this happens this year
-

Correct Gareth. Can't of a race today WHY ? Think u might be right about the west .
-
Gutted today prob one of the worst races I can remember , I have 3/10. All old experienced pigeons . No yearlings sent . Got 3 within 14 mins then fek all .strays galore through here tonight one came with my timer ,one with my second and came in an Aberdeen doo , there's a grizzle and a blue sitting down the street and birds flying in all directions all looking lost .
-
Glasgow and south Lanarkshire away at 7.45 from Newark very light n/west wind .
-
Aye mate been getting it in the neck .
-
I've got a few in the loft been ripped apart , one in particular wont leave the loft , I've got to catch her take her out the loft and toss her up before she will fly then when u turn your back she's out the team down and in in seconds , this hen is finished IMHO . Will leave her as she is paired to a cock who is coming well .

Got a phone call from a guy last night, a non fancier , he found a piece of a wing in his garden actually 3 feathers with my phone number on them , he stays right next door to the high flats in Knightswood. In Glasgow , pretty sure Percy has eaten this bird of mine on the roof and the remains have blown off and ended up in his garden , there was no ring or carcase just these 3 feathers , think it was one of my golden ringers I lost it last Friday from training 30miles having been raced I knew her fate when she didn't return , as the feathers were white and she was a pied , its getting worse every year ive lost 13 birds training so far from between. 10 miles and 40 miles . Only once have I full returns from training this year .
-
Done Harry ps yer youngsters ready Should be ok John as far as I'm concerned although some are not for it
-
Aye Glasgow and south Lanark are also at Newark. 250 miles to me , weather looks to be improving or Saturday with light mainly northerly wind with much better temps . 15/16 deg

Ive had pigeons since 1977 and up till a few years ago never ever had a flyaway ,yes I've heard about it happening , then one morning I let my 18 youngsters out .kept in a 6x6 section , happy going great at night for well over an hour , then one beautiful morn decided to let them out for a fly and get a bath , 8am out ,seen them going great for maybe half an hour , then out of sight , never got/seen a bird till 6pm I ended the night with 6 got one the next morn , got one reported in Alloa north east of me , went for it that night came home after 10mins got another call another same place Alloa , went for it the next night , so ended half back 9/18 no overcrowding healthy happy birds only difference they got out in the morning , happened again two years later only it happened afternoon , lost half of them . Just bad luck I think , if Percy has a go at them they just go and go and go , and most can't find their way back .

Ended up with 13/16 , birds to come we're well up in last weeks race, my 2nd bird my4th bird and my 6th bird in last weeks toughish race . Spoke to a couple of fanciers today that we're similar. Two of them had lost last weeks winners , most of our club members were getting the odd yearling but mainly older experienced birds early yesterday , tough decision was made yesterday by myself and wee davie young about a window to lib we really had to go together as the window was closing fast. Returns seem quite good in what was a very dodgy day weather wise , this week looks to be going back to winter again towards the end of the week .
-
expletive remove the one we need this week is wetherby and there's a fault. Just our luck eh?
-
The oly 100%correct thing about Xc is the wind , expletive remove going By their weather reports we get 360 days of sunshine a year .
