-
ha ha tam i ment £6:20 ,and its pretty good looking .
-
rab im only telling you what i got told but then again the guy that bought them said to wilf i want that one and that one ,he picked them out and wilf reluctantly sold them .ps the guy that bought them has now bought some race horses. so if he said to wilf how much is that (dogie in the window) and wilf said ? then thats how much he paid . money was no object

i have never used swainstons and never will just dont like the look of it ,i dont care what price i pay for feeding(even if it goes to £20 a bag) ,most on here will spend more on a round of drinks on a friday night than a bag of quality corn . .ps im using bucktons winter economy just now and its only £620 a bag and is A1. remember it is winter /resting time .
-
i wouldnt think ducks and geese could do 60/70 mph ,maybe try a cross and if they dont win i could always eat them ;D ;D ;D
-
yes john memories mate ,i cant for the life of me remember that red cocks ring number ,ill need to dig out the old laft books.do you remember the sartilly nat race a few weeks before when about 150/170 birds in race time ?out of thousands
-
im not sure but when i see them cumming dumbarton is right behind them if you know what i mean. ive timed out of the inland national with the snfc a few years back sent 3 timed 3 big del will remember this race( he had a great race as well timing lots of birds ) i was standing with him at airdrie waiting on our clocks. my first bird came from helensburgh direction that is north west of me , ps mel bell won that national he was 1.5 hrs in front of me and i got 20 odd miles from mel staying in coldingham . so what kind of dog leg did mine do that race ? in every race birds weave in and out dog leg east west north south following the contours of the country side ,unless as johno said if the are high above hills etc they would come in a straight(ish) line

how do you get rings on their legs if their sitting now say 2/3 days ,sitt 17 days to hatch then 5/7 days to ring thats about the 25th /27th of dec rings dont come out till 1st jan ?
-
yes mate i think i was 4th combine with an all pooler nom ,red cheq cock , i had him set up to go to rennes but after the disaster out of sartilly national ( sent four and never seen a feather) a few weeks earlier i chickened out and sent him to exeter instead timed at 21 :36 .beaten by a yard for topping the fed .
-
it is fact that since i joined the glasgow fed 2006,i have noticed a swing in the balance of power so to speak with the west winning /topping the fed more than ever even from easterly race points ,and in west winds ,i agree that the alexandria birds in head wind do a dog leg about 3/4 miles from the finnish line. evry week my birds come from an easterly direction some times slightly n/east even from race points such as the old west coast route exeter libbed in a 25 mph n/east wind the whole way and where did my bird come from yes thats correct out the east . you cant get more westerly racepoint than exeter into scotland ps it was 1993 if anyone has the old westcoast combine result ,maybe alec guiness not many home on the shift after a 9 am lib 373 mies ,i lifted a few hundred quid

i have just spoken to stevie and he has told heshad a few birds come over the hills but not many ,hes topped the fed with them coming over and hes topped the fed doing the dog leg that you talk about, so why are they not doing it now ps this was only 2/3 years ago and he has confirmed that he now doesnt have good enough birds to win like had used to.as he changed all his all round birds to a more distance minde family .
-
well mate im only saying what he has told me ,if the birds come up the valley hes usually beat but if they come over his head ,ie over the hills then he was well in .just ask him and dont laugh please .and i never said you had health probs(with your birds) or anything youve only just started back up so will need time to build a team ,then after a few years and your not doing well then yes theres something wrong .but all the other established fanciers that are not doing well then yes they should look in the mirror and ask a question .
-
well mate ask stevie mackeen he has had birds come over the hills a few years ago when he was doing very well and he topped the fed quite a few times , now i can only put it down to bad management ,bad birds ,bad health or maybe a combination or all of them.
-
how far up the valley does you loft lie ? i would think max 2 or 3 miles and if the wind is east your birds would come over the hills or they used to anyway,as the hills are not that high .
-
and your right about aly and jo they have some crackers of wilf as aly's wife jo gets on well with wilf .
-
yes andy he sells birds but if you want the right ones you WILL PAY FOR THEM .i think the two that john callan had cost in region of £1000 for the pair .ps thye were bought by johns pal gary and gifted to john when gary packed in .
-

aly in clydebank club the first few y/b races we had close on 500 birds i think alexandria would be lucky to have 200 ,up the east end of the fed im not sure
