I have a 1 foot square hole in the floor in corner of loft I place drinker on a grill over it as the breeze blows through it keeps all the feathers out of the drinker. with a solid floor you could use plastic drainpipes on the sides or back of loft.

ive found that early ybs when thay hit a bad race are on the loft top the next morning, later bred ybs you dont see again.

I have paired my hen up in may 1 year when i move house and she still only laid 1 egg in first nest, i put it down to that she lays 2 quick after 6or 7 days.

I have an 06 hen that always lays 1 egg in her 1st nest, lays normal rest of season.

for my money i would be looking for dark cheqs / dark w/fs or dark cheq pieds, and would get them from steve wright, House of Aardens,

i had a cock bird that was cheq one year then cheq w/f next, this happened all the time i had him,

I think thay serve no purpose at all, ybs on straw are just as good.

i put bowls after 5 days straw in on day 7 then all lay on 10-12 day.
