  1. Any reason why they can't have a 275 mile race ,that's enough for a fair race and still a decent distance

    Pairing Up

Sounds as it's gone really well I noticed today a couple of my 12 hens were starting to show I think they could hear the cooks and there was a decent bit of sun
  3. Going to pair up the stock Friday I'm off work and the temperature looks around 11 to 14 degrees , a bit early than I planned but looking forward to it and the warm weather may give them a good start I could here the cocks is roaring today so they must fancy it How's everyone else going breeding wise

    Garlic

I used to do that and freeze the cubes and put them in the drinker or on corn but my shed isn't at home and electric is a problem I never know if it's more flavouring than actual garlic , I will have a read of a bottle next time I go to the shops

    Garlic

I use avidress everyday in the water and I don't like to add anything else to the water, so I use garlic in the oil just two days a week when they are racing , I used to use a oil to add to the feed without out garlic but my mate packed up and gave me two bottles of natural brand of garlic in oil and that year and since the birds won out of turn To scared to change it now although I can't see how adding garlic two days a week would have got the birds wining and it was a season when I changed my overall system a fair bit But just continued with it

    Garlic

Never seen that before Looks cheap to use I have used a home made garlic oil each week with fresh garlic in oil but I am never sure how long I can store the mixture out of the fridge in the loft Wonder if that can be added to a oil instead and be cheaper than the branded garlic oil

    Matrix

Yes aniseed makes them clear it I do not like any grit or mineral left hanging around in the loft i prefer the birds to eat it in one go I give a set measure to the birds of a evening and they clear it So I like the aniseed as I really hate to see pot of minerals hanging around on the loft floor when ever I go to see others fanciers lofts they always looks a little damp and like they have been sat there a good few days Sold out if that one at the corn shop Lindsay will give it a try next time mate

    Matrix

I purchased some beyers and natural grit in 20kg bags , pink mineral, aniseed oil ,clay pots and a bit of conditioner seed I think it works out £6.20 and the birds seem to be eating it better than the recent matrix so I think I have saved £36 on the same weight as 10 tubs
  9. Cheers all Very kind of you
  10. Best of luck with your plans
  11. I am trying work it so my 2nd round hatch mid April as these often prove to be my best babies and compete with fanciers who fly darkness youngsters I work around 70 days back from that so if I want them to hatch the 20th April I will pair 8 th of Feb as that a Saturday I have just started to put a few pairs that I am changing partners to allow together for a few hours each Racers I don't breed from so I mostly love mating, any that are here at the end of the yearling season have to have taken fed cards or in a few of the hens cases that don't race be out of my main 3 stock pairs so what they pick don't matter . I may put 2 of the race cocks eggs under a stock pair to test them as breeders So racers will go together at the same time as stock and I will remove the hen once they have sat 15 days that should be early March so 5 or 6 weeks to get them going Before the season starts

    Matrix

I have used matrix for a number of years but I gave noticed the last 4 months there seems to be less mineral and seeds in it and it has become more like a mixed grit Anyone else noticed this ? I liked it as the birds cleared the small amount I put down everyday but now I may as well put down a mixed grit What of these types of ready mixed grit and minerals do others use or do you make your own as I won't be buying anymore matrix
