  2. this thread is all doom and gloom and that is not the case with everyone please dont think that if just one person is desent then that a good thing many many people have helped jack and me after our i think our 2nd breakin members from this site offered jack all kinds of birds from club winners to fed and channel racers I have said it before the generosity of fancier on this site is humbling and i suppose thats what makes it special so dont let some put you of i know its hard trying to judge people but we ALL need a helping hand at times
  3. i have had experanced fanciers racing and show and they all found it hard to sex fantails each had a different way some said the shape of the head others the lenght of the toes and others feel for a gap in the vent bones (i think that was the name) anyway im sure you all know where and another friend told me he could sex them as chicks by looking at their backside a smiley or a frown dictated the sex (but he could have been mixing i never asked him to prove that one)and another said it was just to do with general body size shape and weight and last but not least another said the cock will do a full turn when trying to pair, a hen half a turn but its a bit later at the pairing stage im still none the wiser seriously if you get a 100% answer please PM in case i miss it mick
  4. PM sent if anyone else have any spare rings old new even the same years PLEASE keep jack in minds mick
  5. i know im looking out for manchester pigeon fanciers and it wasnt me who give the warning
  6. last year i was going to collect jack from nursery driving down the street beside a park a guy waved me down and asked would there be any chance of a pair fantails for droppers i knew this guy had racers i said ok but i was in a rush as i was collecting my grandson i knew were the guy lived and told him i would see him in about an hour collected jack up to my house we had lunch and hampered a pair of young fantails into the car and over to the guys house he brought us out to his lofts he had racers opened the door to the loft he was going to keep them in it WAS STINKING deep litter THIS WAS DEEP C**P FILTHY i said come on jack we're going took jack by the hand and lifted the hamper he had the cheek to ask what was wrong i replied if you think his fantails are going into that dirty hole go expletive removed* yourself walked threw his house out the front door and brought the pair home the thing that got me he brought us out to his lofts and in that state maybe he thought it was ok but not what i would have or want jacks birds living in
  7. Police warning over Rangers visit to Manchester http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-manchester-11258277 I know nothing about football just concerned about Manchester fanciers

  9. agree 100% when we started up I was looking indian fantails for jack and couldn't get them anywhere I had seen photos of them on the net reading up on keeping fantails and thought they looked lovely (and they are) I joined this site put a post up and was on the site nightly but wasn't posting as people were talking about racing and we had fantails after a week of no replies I put up looking back on it now and after experiencing the generously of fancies on this site a very cheeky post saying I was looking indian fantails no one has replied I'm not asking for them for nothing ill pay for them gangster replied saying he would see what he could do and mick didn't know me from adam mick GIFTED jack 3 pair now mick had to get them from somewhere as he has racers and in all honesty probably out of pocket jack was 18 month at the time we had garden fantails jack arrived at our house in the mornings we went out let the birds out jack would sit with a pot of corn fantails all around him and him lifting birds after getting a feed the garden fantails went on the roof the indians couldn't make the landing board jack was lifting them all the time and I was giving out at him as much as I wanted him to enjoy his birds I had to think of the birds welfare also so I rang mick and told him the craic he replied there jacks birds you do what you like wwith them I gifted the 3 pair to a very nice man who I asked for fantails when we just started bought jack and myself into his lofts pick what you want I picked I think 4 pair and there was none of you cant have that one or anything like that it was pick what you want after we hampered the birds I asked how much I owed him his reply as long as your grandson enjoys and take care of them that's enough I went to the super market brought a bottle of drink chocs and flowers for his wife and went straight back to noels house and that man has become a friend we ring eachother maybe once a month sorry for going on very sore tonight cant sleep and no one to talk to simply the descent thing to do I agree 100%
  10. can someone please explain why this is to me i would have thought that the unions or feds would like members to have stray birds returned as quickly as possible and without having to go threw the unions or feds jack doesnt have racers but everyone of his fantails are close ring rung with phone number rings like everyone who puts a phone number ring or wing stamped on a bird we do it in the hope of a bird going missing we get a phone call i honestly dont understand this ruling there could well be a very good reason for it hope someone can put me right
  11. lovely birds Bob im sure maiden heaven cant wait to get them in their lofts and im sure they will be well pleased
  12. very kind offer mo chara (my friend) Eammons birds really look the part he was kind enough to have jack and myself on a visit a credit to BOTH of you well done
  13. best of luck mo chara i hope all goes well mick and jack
  14. i took a header last week and made some floor grills for the loft after slipping on the stairs and ending up in bed for 4 weeks im going to make a hopper feeder as well just in case im laid up again hope you like the photos here's the grills I made 6x2 tantalised (treated) rough ripped at 5/8 with 3/4 dowels they are pinned then glued and pinned 1/2 slips on the ends 2x1 screwed around the walls of the loft 5" to the top the runners down the length of the loft are 2x1 supported on 2x1 5" high with 3"under it the 3" glued and pinned to the 5" then the 2x1 glued and pinned to the 5" supported underneath by the 3" kitchen blocks screwed to the end walls to hold the 2x1 joists in position the supports are every 16" the small loft I haven't finished yet have been wrecked this 2 days but I cut them 3/4 to try and get finished sooner even with the 1" spacing on both sets more crap sticks to the 3/4 grills so I would stick with the 5/8 ripped them with a fine tooth saw blade I finish on the sides wasn't to bad so I only had to run the belt sander on the tops im happy with them and the birds don't seem to mind and there's a tip for anyone in the small loft ours is only 5x3x3 the top half of a tool paint tin store you name it we use it for young birds to bring them on a bit after leaving the nest but under the grills I'm using an 8x4 election poster on the floor and turned up the walls 6" resting on 2x1 batons 16" apart so no actual wooden floor under it saving the price of a sheet of ply
