That's what I was wondering, until I noticed.... http://forum.pigeonbasics.com/m-1218216948/

You've done a damned good job feeding and watering it, and if the owner has any sense (and your contact details) it'd be nice if he could confirm that it's returned home. Either way, well done, and thanks for helping it on its way :-)
-
Of course, was only kidding. The mum looks great, so if the babe takes after her (or even not), you're going to have a fine bird on your hands. Well done :-)
-
Shouldn't there be a bird sitting on that? ;-D ;-D ;-)

Crikey - one of my worst fears! pjc has kindly let me have a hen for Blue Boy, and he's been battling for a week to entice her, but she doesn't want to know (yet). I just hope she succumbs before there's any family hanky panky (if, that is, Junior turns out to be a lady) ;-D

A good site! I'm always interested in military pigeons, especially the Cher Ami story. It brings a lump to my throat every time I read it - and not surprising that it's featured on this site too.

Cheers for the comments about Junior, guys. As my first ever hatchling, I'm very proud of him/her. S/he and Blue Boy are now going out in the morning as well as the evening, and Junior's keeping up with his dad :-) About 20 minutes this morning, and back in before I left for work. Pretty much flew straight back onto the landing board and not much loitering before going in. I'll have more of that please ;-D ;-D I let them out yesterday morning, then went into the shed to change their water. Realised I'd left their feed in there overnight and had a slight panic that they'd be out all day as they weren't hungry. But, they still came back and went in quickly as usual. I was really pleased as it's not now just about hunger bringing them back.

Cheers Freebird. Couldn't help posting it, because they loved it. Mind you, I was the one looking around for cats, as they were practically on another planet - didn't look like they'd have noticed ;-D ;-D
-
Phil, it only lasted for about half an hour. But if I see it again, I'll send it west to you ;-D
-
Bath time - pic taken because they (Blue Boy and Junior) looked so content, and also it's the first bit of sun I've seen in days (taken yesterday evening).

Show leeks? I was just about to post up pics of my bathroom ;-D ;-D

Yet another non facier who's taken the trouble of registering, and posting. Well done SS, and thanks for your efforts this far. As Peter J says, if you can catch it (I'm sure you'll be used to this type of thing), keep it secure, feed and water it, and post the details up here, you'll get some contact details, once someone's deciphered the ring number. Cheers

What a blow :-( I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for you.

A lovely pair, jimmy :-)

I don't need any, but a very generous of you, amar :-) - especially with the postage offer too. Cheers.

Hands up, should there be ...

I agree with all those who said that's what PMs are for. Otherwise it's like a ganging up system. If individuals have a gripe about something, what's the point in others getting involved? -
From what I've seen - not just on this forum, but it's fairly common - some people get into what starts off as fairly civil debates, then it gets more heated. It then turns into wanting to to have the last word and justify positions. Either really defensive or attacking. You see it sometimes. Some people just won't let it go, because it looks like that person has backed down. Sort of macho mentality. You get the wind up merchants too. Trying to spark off an argument. Trolls - I thinks that's the technical name ;-D ;-D Nobody likes a nanny state, and it's a really tough call for moderators to lock threads or ban members. I think the idea of a three stage warning is an interesting one, but who's to judge when a warning kicks in? Especially as some people take particular posts as banter, but others reading it think it's abusive? Isn't it more effective for all forum members, whether old hands or newbies, to monitor themselves? Problem is, it takes two or more to make an argument, so wouldn't it be better to cut posts like that off at their legs by not replying to them in the first place? I once responded to a post as I read it the wrong way, and I felt I was out of order. However, once you've posted, you've posted. In the long term, I think forums moderate themselves, and that's down to the membership being sensible. However, I believe swearing and being personally abusive on an open forum is bad form, and if there's a rule against that and someone breaks it (perhaps after a warning), they should be excluded. Problem is, who's to stop people joining again under an alias? Probably nothing, other than a fact that these sort of people will always revert to type, and won't ever really establish themselves as proper members. Any way, that's my opinion for what it's worth.

Love the Laurie Johnson music. It's called 'West End' and was used on Whicker's World. Sorry - I know that's not about pigeons ;-D ;-D

It's the same reason why doctors won't prescribe antibiotics at the drop of a hat - like they used to. And the same reason I have to suffer with tonsilitis for three weeks ;-D

Thanks chick'. They're Jess and Poppy (in order of appearance). -
Hope you manage to get the bird back to its owner.

Reduce cross-country breeding?

I have three pigeons, although no Indians, no runts, no rabbits, no dogs and no bairns - oh, and no Billy. BUT we have a couple of guinea pigs too ;-D
