One foot in the grave, or a pigeon in the kitchen
invalidusername replied to a topic in Notice Board
Vic - if you'd care to mince on over to the 'Pigeon in my Kitchen' thread, you'll see the latest news. I've been away for a while, but that doesn't mean I don't still spend every day looking after and caring for my pigeons. I'll never be able to thank the the folks on PB for the help and advice they've given me. I don't need to be judged - neither do my birds ;-) -
Firstly, I have to say sorry not to have posted for so long. My thanks to Phil (pjc) for updating the site on my internet woes (seems to be a stable connection now). Since my last post, lots of things have happened. I've had Penny (the hen that Phil gave me a few months ago) growing her wing feathers back, and at the age of 6 getting out of the shed (not planned), and then coming back into the shed on her own - then Berwyn, the beautiful white pigeon cock that (once again) Phil gave me going out of the shed for the first time, and going back in. Today, for the first time, the Pigeon in the Kitchen (Blue Boy), his son Junior & Berwyn and Penny all went out together, and came back in together!. They'd never been out liked that before, and for me, it was a real first. It's nothing compared to what feats of excellence is achieved by members of this forum in and out of the racing season, but for me, it was a real achievement. Only one of my birds has been born in that shed (Junior), and it's been a very gradual evolution to get them all out and in - probably a lot slower for me as a novice. Anyway, I'm grateful for all of the support me and my birds have been shown, and thought I'd post a couple of pics of the the one who started all of this off - taken yesterday: Blue Boy (the former Kitchen pigeon) and his nipper (Junior): Blue Boy Junior (with Berwyn in the background) Junior on the frosty grass

PETA Kill animals!
invalidusername replied to Roland's topic in Pigeon Politics, Rules & Regulations
There's a lot of money behind this smear campaign, so I think Chrissy is right. It's big business masquerading as a concern for animal welfare. The one sided stats suggest to me that the site isn't worth the screen it's written on. -
Happy Birthday Messages
invalidusername replied to mealybar's topic in Introductions & Member Messages
Hey, happy birthday Chickadee. Hope you've had a great day :-) :-) -
Have you seen the eggheads? Not exactly what I'd call a beauty pageant! More of a rogues gallery ;D ;D
-
Well done, and fingers crossed! You won't forget your first hatchlings. Cheers.
-
If it's going to happen, it'll happen in their own time, and as long as you've got a male and a female, the eggs should hatch and you'll have a couple of youngsters to add to the collection! Best wishes - and resist the temptation to interfere. Leave 'em to it - they know what they're doing :-) Good luck!

Cheers DOVEScot. He's a lovely bird and a real character. Yes, I'm aiming to get the aviary sorted, and perhaps make myself a larger sputnik - they love the warmth in there - like a conservatory really! Thanks for this Larry. I think you're right about the bad habit, and if they all end up going out together, Bluey will take them all off to wherever he's going. I have a cunning plan to track down his other location - more out of my own curiosity than anything. I'll definitely stop the others going out with him. Cheers - and I'll look out for some books or articles as you suggest. Best wishes :-)

Well, Andy did brilliantly to get into the final, IMO. He was trounced in the end, but having fought back to beat Nadal in the semis, his confidence is going to grow from this.

New home for drop wing - advice needed
invalidusername replied to globalgirl's topic in Novices, Beginners & Young Fanciers
Well, everyone's said it before really, but my Bluey was looking very scrappy around the back of the neck, side of the eyes/ears and between the eyes. He was like it for a good few weeks, and now he's looking great again. Yours will too. The hen I got off pjc stood in the corner of the shed for weeks, and didn't seem to move around much (apart from when Bluey was chasing her around). I put her on a long and quite low shelf, and she's fine on there (she shares it with Berwyn - so it's a good job it's long). I'm sure given time, they'll all settle in and love their new home. Well done :-) -
Cheers, Phil :-)
-
Do you think I should leave it 'til later in the week, Phil?
-
I was thinking about tomorrow, Phil. He's seen out of the shed a fair bit now, so maybe he should have a go. Am afraid that he won't come back. But he'll definitely have to go on his own, otherwise Bluey and Junior will lead him astray.

The paralympics is definitely an inspiration to everyone (IMO), but it has nothing to do with disability. It's all about ability. Good luck to all the competitors.
-
He's a destructive force who's never contributed anything positive to this thread, and my regret is that I rose to his bait. I'll never reply to one of his posts again. OK, two pics I took today. The first is of Berwyn (thanks, pjc). Lovely natured. The other is of Bluey and Junior in the sputnik :-)

I wouldn't say I'm proud of myself, but I am glad for what I've done for my pigeon and for having his companions. I've learnt a lot from people here, and it's a great place. I try not to listen to people who don't realise how strongly I feel about them - and that includes friends, who think I've lost the plot. But I won't have sniping from idiots who have nothing better to do - and if they want to bring it on, well, so be it.
-
Cheers Flapper. I don't think I could ever explain myself to this man. I'll let my phoney posts speak for themselves, and enjoy my birds.
-
Vic, I've never said I'm joining a club, and currently, I don't intend to. What's phoney about that? I didn't have a clue about pigeons, or pigeon behaviour when I first found my pigeon, and I couldn't have pulled him through, or wouldn't have bought a shed and got more pigeons without the help of people on this great forum. The generosity of people here has been astounding, and that's genuine. I don't know what you mean by gift of the gab either. I just post as I feel. However, you have neither the gift nor the gab. I can't quite understand the 'phoney' comment though. I've never posted anything phoney here. I don't intend racing at the moment, and maybe I never will. But life can be long, so who knows? Of course, if I'd taken your advice/prognosis, my fascination with them would have ended after about two weeks. What was it? He's a gonna - or words to that effect?
-
Actually, reflecting on your pigeon fancying 'superiority', I'd better correct myself. Because, if I remember correctly, and based on your advice on this thread, you're not even that as a pigeon fancier. Which makes you rather a failure on both counts. Again, you must be used to that.
-
Vic, as it's come to you re-editing quotes, you've proved beyond all reasonable doubt that whilst you're superior in many aspects of pigeon fancying, you're rather inferior as a human being. Your bitterness shines through. A bit of a shame really, although you must be used to it.
-
Well Alf, if you can't laugh at other people, who can you laugh at ;D ;D
-
Yes Vic, as always you are right. Well, perhaps not always ;-)
-
Phil - thanks, as ever. I wouldn't have thought of that, so will give it a go. Berwyn hasn't been out yet - he sometimes sits in the sputnik, but not every day, so I was a bit nervous about letting him out, just in case he doesn't know the look of the garden. Would you suggest I do it quickly? Presumably, I should concentrate on him alone? He's such a lovely looking bird, and a big boy. I think he'll be the biggest in the shed. There's Bluey, Junior, Penny and Berwyn - that's a lot for me :-) Bluey will let me do anything with him, Junior pecks me and puts his head down and his back end up, Penny whips me with her wings, and Berwyn is very tame with me (usually). Will get a pic of all of them them up soon :-) ps: I've also inherited a baby collared dove which someone brought to me two days ago. Magpie chased it into a window. Keeping my distance and only putting food and water into the hutch inherited by Bluey - but garden rather than kitchen this time! It can sort of fly, but has no lift, and ends up in the corner of the garden (cat city). Think it's missing a tail feather or two. It's like a rescue centre here !!! :-)
