  1. Phil - Junior came back the same day on Monday, but went for 2 days mid week. He went out yesterday morning, and only came back today. I have to say, Bluey looks really well, probably had a real soak. But he was scoffing the peanuts down. If he has got a girlfriend, it's probably not a great idea to keep him in then? Tiny is doing really well. Name is now Berwyn in honour of Wales - think it's white head (?) but that's an understatement as it's more than the head that's white, of course !! He's pretty tame with me (not like Henny Penny, who hates me!)
  2. And when they can't, report them to trading standards and your local authority!
  3. Got home from work this evening, and Bluey was back :-) A few peanuts to welcome him back. I don't think I'll let him out for a few days, even though he and Junior will probably be scratching at the sputnik door to go out in the morning!
  4. They ain't heard nothing yet!
  5. I know someone called Paul Rickard, and he uses his initial and surname for his e-mail address. He didn't what it sounded like until I pointed it out :-)
  6. Unfortunately, Bluey has been AWOL for 5 days. He's had a few days where he's stayed out overnight, and the longest he disappeared was 3 days. So this is a record. As long as nothing drastic has happened to him, he's getting a ready source of food from somewhere! I suspect he may be going to a local loft somewhere. Junior has been following him and has stayed out the odd night too. When Bluey does come back (if he does), I'm going to keep him in for a week or so and give him a good talking to about knowing on what side his bread's buttered! Maybe they don't like my shed :-(
  7. Magnificent. Well done Stuart :-)
  8. Good for you, and here's to your new start. Very best wishes for the future :-)
  9. A nice father!
  10. When my Bluey was out for 2 years, he contended with heat, torrential rain, thick snow, freezing days - well, in this country, freezing weeks and months :-/ and all throughout that time he was flying, flying, flying, very strong and never ill. It was, of course to his cost eventually, as he got very sick, which brought him into my kitchen and then back to full health again. But I'm sure that all that time out added to his condition. It's getting that balance between letting birds being allowed to be natural, whilst at the same time doing what you need to do to train them - which can go against their natural way. I agree with your comments - it's all about a good balance.
  11. Ha! Yes, we spoke about that last night, Phil. May need a bit of work at home before I'm allowed to take over any more of the garden ;-) The new addition is a real corker, and I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks again, Phil :-)
  12. Rab, if it's me you mean, may I just say that I've learnt so much about pigeon racing and the sport in general that I can't believe it - and I only know about 0.0002% about it. Everyone I talk to (friends and work colleagues) know I have some pigeons, and because it's so out of character for me, they ask about them. They get the full run-down about homing pigeons and the dedication of fanciers. They also get a full rendition about War Pigeons! I know that the people I talk to are never going to be fanciers, but if I can at least get them interested in this wonderful pastime (sport), and get people to see these magnificent and majestic creatures in their full light - well, I'm happy!
  13. bluepiedcock - thought provoking about the future of pigeon racing and the sport in general. But you know? All I can think, and say is that I'm so sorry for you and your family of your uncle who died so young. Best wishes.
  14. There's no place like home - if it's a good home! Good for her :-)
  15. Your shed's arrived! Brilliant :-) Your grandad would be (and I'm sure was) very proud of you. Best of luck with the shed ;-)
  16. haha - didn't take any effort from me - other than 2 yrs in the wild followed by a purpose built shed, dedication, etc. I guess a safe place to come home to is bound to make a pigeon bloom after that lot! :-)
  17. Well, bluewhiteflight, he's still got that ticking on his wing feathers! His head and the back of his neck are looking a bit rough as he's in moult, but his wing feathers are lovely - still with that ticking! He also has (on his wings) some white powdery bits too. Not sure what this means, but sure some experts here will know.
  18. You won't have seen this. For my PB friends - an exclusive from (ex starlet snd) superstar Joan Collins. One of my particular favourites ;-) Sometimes, pigeon fancying/racing can seem like this (pi**ing in the wind) If you watch it all the way through, it's actually quite moving... http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=AxO69h2vyzM

  24. Seriously though - isn't it the most wonderful sound when a squeeker finds its voice and start to sound like a sort of mini-pigeon? Mine makes a noise like its just breathed in some helium from a baloon. Sounds so great :-)
  25. Oh, shut up ;-) It'll be up :-) A few adaptions and...
