Put dowls or mesh over your openings and then make a hinged frame with perspex to act as an opening window! Lets light in can be opened for air and keeps rain out!

Best place for your loft is on the line of flight! If you can't manage that then i prefer to have the loft facing as near to south as possible but without it facing the house. If you put the loft along the side of your garden you can still see the front and it stops birds coming out of the loft and flying straight up onto the roof, likewise when landing, depending on how far the loft is from the house they may settle on the house first and lose time on race days.

Maybe mods should be asking why people , good people want to leave!

They moult the primary flight from shortest to longest, going away from the body and when they get to the last three longest flights the birds wing may be sore and they won't want to fly as much which is why people don't want birds at that stage in the moult during racing.
