there is nothing in the rules to stop youngbirds being sent witht the oldbirds but would you want to put a 12 wk y/bird in the basket with a dozen widowhood cocks?
Youngbird sickness will happen at anytime, usualy when stressed so in my opinion this would not reduce it.

The rings are early enough now to have any age racing as they do on the continent.
If you started breeding in the autumn, the birds will still be moulting and need a rest not being continualy bred from.

Spot on Kia! Nobody needs to charge a newcomer anything for a quality start.
If somebody start with rubbish as pets and gains interest wanting then to have a go at shows etc, how dissapointed will they be then when they are told by a judge that there pride and joy's are only fit for one purpose?
Just for you Tomo
get her on-line and read some (selected stories ) on the forum, maybe also let her look at some pics and have a hand in selecting what you start with along with how the loft will look, where it will go in the garden etc etc.

chickadee, I agree with you they are no good for show birds, not only because the sweat but they are to short for many breeds and the tails get damaged, but they are ideal for just moving birds around as they are light and easy to carry.
