if you were to use one you'd be best off insulating it and linning it with ply to prevent it gettting to hot in summer but they don't have good ventilation.

Keep the bird confined, rabbit hutch etc, give him a few days to feed and water. He may be exhausted which is why he won't or doesn't want to fly or he may be injured. As long as he is eating and drinking then there is unlikely to be anything seriously wrong with him. there is a chance he may belong to somebody in the uk and there is a small chance he has a stamp in his wing with a phone number on for the owner. If you open up his wing you may see a number stamped on his wing flights. If not where abouts in Suffolk are you, there maybe a member on here who lives near you who could help. Phil

I still maintain the best birds are often free gifted or loaned by friends, a friend of mine brought 2 direct sons of the original Stamvaeter cock, you can imagine what they cost him. When he packed up racing he gave me the last of his stock, the birds he just didn't want to sell, on paper birds worth thousands. These have bred winner after winner for me and others but I have never ever considered selling anything from them but have gifted birds from them most years! Maybe in some people eyes that makes me stupid, but i'd rather be stupid than a money grabber especialy when these were gifted to me! JMO

about 30yrs ago I had an old Barker cock, he normally had 11 flights in each wing and 13 tail flights. One year after the moult he had 12 flights in 1 wing, it appeared that 2 flights came out of the same hole, the next year was back to 11 in each wing.

Some of us offer any spare youngsters to new starters especialy latter in the season and usualy these youngsters are the seasons last round from the stockloft. If these birds are treated right will often found a loft. Most best birds are obtained trough frienships rather than transactions!
