  1. if you have old stock of your own that are produceing then thats great and you are likely to keep them and keep producing the goods but I think what budgie is trying to say is why do people sell older stockbirds? Two reasons as far as I can see, firstly they may have bred all they want from them and are keeping there children for stock to keep the family going or secondly and prob most common they are sold on because they are no good and the owner wants to get some of there money back to buy something else!
  2. Well done, that all people want at the end of the day, good honest pigeons that have performed at sensible prices and not over inflated funny colours! Good luck to who ever has brought them, sure they will go on and produce the goods!

    gem-gps?

the sensor/gps plots the birds route, when the bird arives home you take it off the bird and download the data to a pc which plots the birds route.
  6. is this a ploy to beat Amanda?

    gem-gps?

it looks a good idea but would be better if it was a real time tracker and not have to download data on return. Surely they must be able to supply the sensor without the kit.
  10. not argueing, birds look spot on! Just pointing out the abscence of a particular colour!
  11. nice looking birds, just goes to show what can be achieved by breeding the stupid chocs out of them!

    RPRA pass the buck

unfortunatly nothing will change but as the heading to this thread the RPRA pass the buck and don't deal with the culprits if reported to them!

    RPRA pass the buck

there are far to many who don't want them back with every excuse under the sun why they can't collect them! Is it not an RPRA rule that birds should be stamped/carry address rings when training or racing? How many bother to stamp there birds before they start training? How many strays have you reported to be told "would you like it it bred off my best birds"? No wonder we have a problem!
  14. If its Psychology then save your time and money studying pigeon fanciers as we know we are all mad! ;D
  15. you might like to be a a fanciers loft on race day. It would be interesting to put a heart monitor on them when they are expecting the birds home and see what happens when they see a bird approaching etc.
  16. make sure the battens are big enough otherwise you can get dents in the keels when the birds roost on them.
  17. a few year ago i made feed troughs from guttering, made ideal troughs but the edges were sharp and shaved the feathers off the crops. Put edge protector along them and never had a problem again!
  18. spot on Dave, thats why I asked!
  19. how do you know its mite? You say its eating the new feathers coming through, i'm suprised they are moulting at this time!
  20. what kind of feeder does he have? is it a new feeder?
  21. I take it you are refering to feathered fancy breeds! If your birds are breaking foot feathers on wire or the loft wall etc then you need to keep them quieter, they must be wild! if your birds are calm they should just sit on there perches which will illiminate damage, also give them poles to perch on.
  22. Do you give your birds a mixture of vitamins that only you know? We use a mixture of grits, minerals, black & red and liquid multi vit on occasions in the water but nothing secret that isn't readily available. If so do you have a specific or special way in which you prepare it? Only preperation is feshly squeezed fruit juice to stick brewers yeast to corn How do you prepare your birds for a race, special food/vitamin mixture, lucky charms etc? Feed a good clean mixture with protein/carb ratio adjusted to suite requirements Do you go through any specific routine in readying the birds for flight? We have a routine regarding feeding, cleaning etc which the birds are used to in readiness for a race. On the Saturday while waiting for the bird, do you go through any routine in anticipation? Only routine on a ace day is to prepare the loft in readiness for the birds to return, hens ready in boxes if widowhood, check the stall traps are locked, shout at the neighbours if they dare get the lawn mower out and gag the kids. Is there a lot of anxiety, and what do you do to calm yourself if there is? Always anxiesly awate the return of the first birds, nothing can calm you down until you see either your birds arrive home or somebody elses birds pass the loft. Do you socialise with the bird, read the papers with them, talk to them, play music to them etc? Always talk to the birds while in the loft and often have the radio playing whilst cleaning out.
  23. enjoy the site, welcome

    ybs  frightened

Not one of your tigers? yongbirds get used to noises, kids, dogs etc as long as they can get to see out of the loft. If the loft is closed in and the birds can't see out they will get spooked by a leaf falling from a tree as it will be something unfamillier. Hope you get them back though!
