To me part of this great sport is seeing the birds home, calling them down and clocking, doesn't matter if ets or manual, I wouldn't enjoy the race if I couldn't or didn't want to be there. When a bird comes home can you guarentee its going to come straight in over the pad and not sit on the loft etc. To me the only time i'd be happy or want to leave the ETS to get on with it is when we get holdovers and the birds are liberated on a work day, but it wouldn't be the same as seeing the bird shut its wings and dive for home! JMO

I try and let the birds out when kids are running around, mower is going, washing is out etc etc so they aren't afraid or spoofed by noises on a saturday! My grandfather used to yell at the neighbours if they dared go into there garden on a saturday!

get to drive the birds up these valleys somehow! I've booked a hot air baloon to fly over Swansea on the 18th!

the birds always seem better with some sun into the loft. If the only way is to put some clear tiles in the southside of the roof then do that but if your afraid of cooking them put some sliding panels in the loft ceiling that can be closed if required.

Younger birds do have more vigour but i've bred winners from 10,11,12 yrd old stock cocks!
