  1. certainly think paratyphod no joke,, im quite sure pigeonman 007 is hoping and praying he doesnt have this in his birds,,
  2. these pigeons are on natural darkness system should start a body moult about a couple months old,, but will retain their flights ,, but nights getting lighter each evening now , so if you want a full body moult with holding their flights , would need darkenning shortly
  3. a hen usually lays quicker when rearing only one yb ,, nature should take care of them
  4. ssssame here ,,but sno sno,,all gone ;D

  10. great read micko ,, its only fair to say the scottish homong union have tried [and are still trying] to do thir bit,, my opinion, it need all unons to work to-gether with other song bird groups ,, the more the merrier against the mighty rspb,,, david beat goliath [and on the biblical veiw,, they never mentioned noah,, the first pigeon fancier ;D]
  11. see cher ami on war pigeons ,, a fantastic story and poem... cher ami,,,"dear freind"
  12. ideal way,, virkon s pretty cheap,, but most effective,[defra approved ] i see frank taskers idea , to put the bowl on two small slats of wood , to keep the nest pan, just slightly off the base ,,as the rim round the bottom of the nest bowl , stops the air from getting through the 4 "air holes" on the base of the nest pan, this stops the dampness on the nest box floor
  13. ;D ;D ;D ;D your def onto a winner ;D ;D ;D
  14. also agree around 4 days either way,, but if their hatching over the 18 days , can manage an extra 6 days max, by boxing the cock for two days , letting the hen sit itself ,, then at a later stage boxing the cock for two days,[even repeating this a week later] then hopefully they will sit for 22 days b4 eggs are chipping , this seems to encourage them to let them hatch, without comming off their eggs ,, but dodgy , and pushing it slightly , but have managed this ,,,,,,,,,6 days b4 the 18 days the parents would be able to form milk,,,,,,,one thing is if you manage to get a hen sit this long and hatch its first yb,s of the season,, it will make it very keen indeed
  15. edddie raced natural,, with both many winning hens and cocks,, i have won both on natural and widowhood at the 5 to over 600 mile races , but a good natural hen , on a hard race, will take a bit of beating [but, as usual, with pigeons," theres many ways to skin a cat" ] ;D
  16. talk about feathered legs ;D ;D ;D maybe just taking things too far,, ,, maybe he was just taking his pigeons for a" short flight" ;D ;D ;D think maybe the tights gave things away ;D ;D ;D
  17. another one of his moments ;D ;D ;D ;D as far as grits go and minerals etc ,, if their all in front of them,, clean and dry,, the birds themselves know what they want,,,, and when they want it
  18. yes, im sure this is true, one thing for certain the goodness in garlic [the alicin] is destryed by boiling i would suppose like many vits, in many things, most destroyed in boiling [just off to get my raw carrot breakfast ;D ;D,, ham and eggs ;D]
  19. some great pics :) , like the one of chi chi,s ,, a smashing pic, ;D, how lucky greenlads was ;D looks like a summer day there ,, but all great pics
  20. i beleive this to be true [no so sure in this case, could be many reasons] but in the above post , it is a well known fact that our modern day pigeon is derived from the rock dove, the true rock dove usually nesting in caves ,cliffs etc ,, and would keep on breeding as long as their food is plenty,, how far could this go, in breeding and inbreeding, they would be standing on top of each other :)then freaks ,,,, i beleive that nature makes sure of this outcross by , when over crowded, causes a fly away ,, a flyaway with young stock, that would find another a lesser populated colony in some far off way, from this overcrowded colony, therefore settle and cross breed again untill the same happened again,, i beleive our modern day pigeon still posseses this instict,, being one of the reasons of a flyaway with yb,s only my opinion
  21. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D so true ;D happy birthday all
  22. multi-vits are very cheap , but in my opinion the best pick me up is vit b ,, contained in beer yeast also very cheap and does the bird no harm whatsoever,,only my opinion
  23. in my opinion there are times when vitamins are needed,,with pigeons ,,whether their bought or found themselves by the pigeon,,, but in reading some of the past posts, we are likening pigeons with humans , pigeons are completely different alltogether i,e their metabolism etc ,, as far as humans go, i beleive with proper diet, the purchase of vitamins are useless, but there are cases in humans that lack vitamins through various reasons ,illnesses etc, our pigeons are really forced to do the most un-natural thing in making them fly home from faraway distances , with pigeons returning home with sometimes than half the weight they go away with, tha tis one of the reasons i beleive in vitamins for pigeons , they need these to build up again,,,different with pigeons un-raced and able to forge, and find their own vits and minerals which would be quite sufficient for them , they would know what they want and when they want it ,, but pigeons going through un-natural stress i,e racing etc , i beleive will need vits, and minerals to supplement their diet, as it is us, the fancier that is depleting the pigeon of vitamins, in putting these birds through some very difficult and strength sapping times ,, so vits for me in the correct doses
  24. garden,, same as everyones around here ;D
