before complaining on line,, looking from answers from mods who are poss ill, or worked to many hours , or even on holiday sometimes,, ,,all mods have a life too,,, it would save a lot of bother if you simply read the "pigeon basics" RULES , 9 times out of 10 ,,,,,,,,your answer will lie there
-
maybe you should apply for job as moderator ,, [no wages remember , but many hours work,,] you might just poss get the job :-/,, but most mods, have been asked to become mods,[read the pigeon basics rules] by owner of this free site,,,, :-/,,,, anyone enquire if ive been ill lately?? b4 jumping in, and complaining?? ,,, be thankfull, gratefull to a great site, spoilt at times by the ignorant,,, which in my opinion is also ruining the pigeon racing game >

we have seem to have taken for granted,, all pigeon fanciers have a free pigeon forum, a boon to all,,, in pm,s ,,,, lost birds,,, found birds , health, racing, showing ,on and on and on, should we be gratefull for this,,,,, or it is our god given right to complain and maybe even loose this forum,,,,,,,,

this i would agree with,,im certainly not against the darkenning system, but this has to be done correct,, many novices are just told "go on the darkness system ,,its great" without being told about any of the poss. pitfalls caused by this system,,,,, i have seen many novices , through know fault of their own,,,,being told, "just make the loft dark from then to then" and thats it,, many have too many pigeons per cubic sq per loft without proper ventilation, this in itself would cause much stress, and could lead to ailments, the ventilation is of paramount importance, in this ,or indeed any system, but moreso in this system, cleanliness is another of paramount importance, timing another, but as the first poster asks , and many have answered , a little experience with pigeons first, b4 trying this system is probably best

i was given 2 young racing homers
jimmy white replied to adamant's topic in Novices, Beginners & Young Fanciers
yes, this is normal,, b4 flying,as theyll find security in their loft :)just keep putting them on the board and let them drop through the bob wires, to get used to them,as they get older, thy will start to venture , maybe you would be better with few more birds, pigeons are gregarious, like company and easier trained , but may be regulate their feeding,i,e little in the morning, then a better feed of an evening ,,,,,they will fly when their ready good luck -

training in the opposite direction
jimmy white replied to lordcornwallis's topic in Novices, Beginners & Young Fanciers
i think maybe yb,s better trained line of flight, then when confident, trained off line slightly,, but with old birds in my opinion doesnt matter so much [as long as theve been well trained as yb,s] i think we tend to train yb,s to learn them the area, whereas , were training g ob,s to get them fit,, only my opinion, but have prooved this for myself -
they will soon go when ready,, but hungry birds wont fly, maybe a tad more barley in their eving meal, might be worth a try,, letting them out and getting them in the same times often helps , they do get used to routine
-
young birds at this age area little awkward , they do like exploring on other roofs etc,, but with a little patience, they soon find out whats wanted of them,,they learn bad habits very easy, best try and learn them the good habits,, reward them with a little seed around the loft, when they hear the sound that eventually they will ass, with food, [usualy rattle of tin and voice] , then get them in,, theres time enough to take things further after that
-
as this is for novices,, maybe you could explain why this is "bull" natural pigeons go through less stress than un-natural ones,, stress can often lead to ailments

When To Train Young Birds
jimmy white replied to Tropicman's topic in Novices, Beginners & Young Fanciers
i think theres a difference from training and tossing ,, training comes first,, i,e teaching them to be at ease and drink and feed in the basket, making sure their flying well b4 tossing [ranging] keeping them under controll etc,, but as far as tossing, if their ranging well, about 3 weeks b4 the first race,, any younger birds can be started at 10 weeks old -
if your in new zealand :-/,,move to brittain, you wont have that trouble here, because of the massive population of different types of hawks leaving grain around at any time can be a bad thing, not just for sparrows , but for vermin, and there could be worse consequences to your pigeons by them, a few drops of aquas iodine in their water, will help any spread of desease via the drinker, that might be be caused by wildbirds drinking from it

these rings belong to the fanciers who paid for them,, are the rspb stealing these rings,, they havent reported any????
-
agree,,spot on deviating slightly,,,having handed in to the union a while ago about 500 pigeon rings , sent by gamekeepers, all over the north of england , that had found them on the ground AFTER THE RSPB HAD CLEARED THIR NEST OF PIGEON RINGS, according to the gamekeepers letters, that accompanied the rings THEY found [posting not working right need to put follow up post
