  1. it does work, ill try and photograph this , when i have time ,,, [and energy ;D] but the pigeons lap it up, and love it,, when used to it, will just sit on the palm of your hand for ages,,
  2. hi mark, maybe once you get over this bad race, you will think differently, maybe try and have a little patience yet, i think most pigeon fanciers have had races like this, and probably a lot more to come, unfortunately, theres allways more downs than ups in pigeon racing, which actually makes the winning any prizes , more satisfying, take no notice of fanciers who gloat about this, its certainly no joke to any owner , when this happens, youve the yb,s starting shortly, so why not give it a bash,, give it your best shot ,,stay on the forum, learn what you can , then who knows, next year at this time, you might be posting your first best of luck mark,,stick in their mate, and show em
  3. no probs duncan,,,good luck
  4. nope ;D no rubber ring nos will be on any club sheets,, club sheets should be handed to secy,,, your clock receipt , from nat, after timing,, should then be given to club secy [if your club makes a race of it, not all do]
  5. pigeons love being stimulated [or tickled , i you like ] on the hard bone under the eye, stimulating this bone can allmost hypnotize them,, this is the bone that each mate , preens or stimulates, which seems to have a real calming effect on the pigeon,, if you tickle this bone [its a kinda raggety bit] for a while, in perfect peace and quiet, with no movement around you, , you will be able to have the bird lying in the flat of your hand ,, with only one hand, , ive even [my partypeice ;D true]had the pigeon , lying on my hand, upside down whilst still tickling this bit under the eye, for over 5 mins,, try it,, it works but need no movement and perfect quietness.

  11. ;D ;D ;D blue council bags were pinned on the inside windows , covering the glass ;D ;D.[in the most beautifull surroundings ;D ; ,,, a scrap yard ;D. ;D ;D loft, inside of loft painted pale light blue, this kept the w/hood cocks calm during rest period.[along with the classical music on a transister ;D ;D ;D, they preffered bach,,,,come bach ;D ;D;D] to this beautifull setting ;D ;D ;D cars piled on top of others , wires above loft, greyhounds barking, a scaffolding hoisting an engine from a car,, 4ft from my loft,,,on a sat ,,w/hood cocks trapped straight through the scaffolding into their boxes, many records were broken[one was vera lyn singing "the white cliffs of dover" ;D ;D ;D [still to this day ] and many races won, inc 2cnd national 608 miles] this is reckoned by the canary breeders ,to cause less stress, [my brother ;D] who, by rules, have their breeding cages , show cages painted this colour, dont know who you are brumby, but, obviously very observant, ;D one of the best supplements to have [along with hard work , as vallance says];D ;D ;D good luck matey,, ,,,little things count ;D [hope i spelt that right ;D] have a good race day jw

    TAMMY_1

you get good birds from mods ;D ;D ;D ,,well done tammy and chrissy
  14. one thing i do like is brewers yeast,, yes , cheaper out health shop i pefer the tablets, allows you to check over birds at the sametime anyone tried nettle tea?? top 6 inches of the stinging nettle, boiled in water, have tried this b4 , did the birds no harm
  15. i would pair late, hence holding their flights, mature, expeienced birds, distant bred, roughly 4 races , higher protein diet, 8 hour fly about 4 weeks b4 race , then feed a higher carboheydrate diet nearer the race in question, sent in their suited nest condition [natural] i,e distances of over 500 miles trained every second day , the last three weeks b4 race ,,,so higher protein diet, going on to higher carbo, nearer the race
  16. looking through all the various pigeon supplements on the market nowadays,,,and the prices??,,, do you think their worth it,,,,i dont ;D maybe some veiws
  17. quite right,, what might work for one fancier might not neccessary work for another,, same goes for the birds
  18. maybe just a point of interest,, Brian May, the irology expert, explained to me whilst at my home, that pigeons [like canaries ] have buff feathering and plain feathering. he called them satin feathered and silk feathered , these were , he said , genetic,, showing me through a microscope , it was quite possible to see the difference with various breeds [or birds, pigeons ] some had wider webbing and some closer webing, he reckoned the latter absorbed the water easier than the silk one, which repelled the water, whether this was prooved to be true,i dont know, but i could certainly see the difference in the type of feathering quite visable
  19. if you part the feathers you will see it,, at the base of the back,, stimulating this gland with your finger should proove if working well should be a spot of "oil" on your finger my apologies larry,,missed your post
  20. in my opinion tablets would not be a preference of mine , but once into this habit, fairly hard to get them out of it, i note you have treated them for e coli, if they had e,coli, this could poss be the reason, making up for the lack of minerals [lost with the e, coli, ,,,but as earlier poster remarks , the earth from a fresh mole hill, [changed daily] mixed with most grits , some seeds , [smaller seed sthe better] enough to keep them picking, might just help,, i try this to keep them from the rhone pipes , it seems to work,, ive even filled a basin of grass sods, mixed with small seeds grits etc,, even a lettuce washed sprinkled with salt , might help,, but if only repeated this feilding 4 times,, time now to get them out the habit,, worth a try,,
