my thoughts first would be the age of the yb,s,,,, some yb,s are 6 months old b4 racing, some as young as 12 weeks old,, if these older yb,s were ranging well, for some time, then trained well up to 30 miles,, they should be quite able of racing well over 100 miles first race these younger ones, still growing fast,, need built up, slowly , but can , and have came better than these older yb,s if handled with care, these younger birds [on natural] are often better, flight wise, than the older ones [not on darkness] for the later races
