  1. so sorry to here this , cemetry after checking with defra , "all shows with birds are cancelled " brother david phoned me this morning his big birmingham cage bird show [which he has looked forward to is off , i asked if shows could be postponed ,,unfortunately defra,s wording is" cancelled ", he is the secy] but he informs me , as for the pigeon men this could proove differant after the end of dec [defra,s meeting ] where the powers that be, should be putting up the biggest fight of their life,,,,,,,,,,,,,,shows can be cancelled then re-arranged at "another suitable time" possibly," just possibly"after that meeting ,,, so lets hope there are no more outbreaks , i dont know what the webmaster would think , but any club shows could allways hold looking through classes judged by your own judges on p,basics [at least we could all be at the show ] sad, sad time, but we must keep the fight up and find someway out
  2. i agree , maybe someone can put me right, but did we not have this carry on last year? we had the same news,,,,,every show, sale etc was off , then it materialised that we could apply to defra for a licence, then under their" rules " cleanliness and hygene and certain other criteria ,,,,,,,,,,,,,we were able to go ahead
  3. possibly a cue for a new posting but this posting has to do with shows off ,,or on,,,board flu or not ,, my ideal when posting results are no of birds in race,, no of members in club, and birdage of fed etc ,,but this could be another good topic anyway 2 months approx to blackpool ,, a lot could happen b4 then [i hope to the good ]
  4. meant to post this qoute ,,sorry chrissy :B :B :B

really dont see a lot wrong with the bird , good birds can come in all shapes and sizes , but if you were adament you wanted it changed , maybe a nice phone call explaining you were out the country and asking for a " possible chance of a gesture of good will," might do the trick
  6. if you do, theyll be far easier to breed when you want them too
  7. i think [and hope] once peter bryant gets his teeth in to this , this meeting at the end of dec. could possibly favour the fanciers for the blackpool show, providing,,there are no more outbreaks as you say chrissy, there is a lot of money to be lost , so we can only live in hope and try not to look at the negative side ,,,,,,so heres hoping
  8. this comming weekend was to be the big birmingham cage bird show, my brother is secy of his club , and entered 16 , so will see what info he can come up with i still say that the cellardyke swan was a strange case , theres no way that floated over the north sea and was washed up in cellardyke [there would have been nothing left of it], just up the coast a few miles theres hundreds of swans, not one had this ,,this was on the day of the governments , "practice run day",,,odd,,,,,, now we have this outbreak,,,6 weeks b4 xmas ,not swans [which seem to be more prone to this ] but eating birds ..seems odd again to me,??
  9. a jar of vaseline,,,,ice cold water ,, a hankie and a pair of plyers ;D ;D ;D as i said this would be pushing it a bit, but possible on some,,,but unwise
  10. i honestly think that 8 week old birds that have shown sign of desease at this time of year can only cause you problems i,e secondry infection etc , maybe not really worth the bother also these can contaminate your loft for the future , sorry to be so negative
  11. paired sun, nov 11th lay 15 days ,[this time of year]so lay 26th nov hatch 18 days later , 14th dec ,by the 1st of jan they would be 17 days old it would be very close but a really good" ringer" could get rings on these at that age using the right tools ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,that was if you could get rings for first of jan , but as i said in my post in scot , we cant get rings till the 10th of jan [or rather your not supposed to get them b4 the 10 of jan] so in scot it would be poss [hard , but poss] to pair up on the 21st nov and have 08 rings on,,,,,,off course this is pushing things to the limit :) which personally i think theres no need for in my opinion for early season races, birds paired up after blackpool [w hood] later season birds 1 month later also w,hood ,, then nat birds end of march, whether w hood or natural
  12. yes,,,,in my opinion , sound sense debbie , patience with pigeons is a virtue,, it takes a long time to really get started racing pigeons [but making a mistake in the winter , you loose a year] if those birds have been trained 30 miles [yb,s] as yearlings , i would wait until the month of may , then train them, and just give them a few races in the warmer weather , then as 2 year olds they could be capable of anything best of luck
  13. i just feel so sorry for dale newcombe , but all birds comming out of that loft will be of the best breeding,, ,, the rest is up to the fancier that buys them
  14. there are some" breeds" of racing pigeons that moult slower than others , but sometimes [if its ybs your on about ] youll get the odd one have a harder race or a more difficult time of it than others , this will" steg" the moult slightly, also if a yb has been off colour for some reason or another , this will also "steg" the moult, a bit.. there can be many reasons for this completion of the moult, i,e darkness system , yb,s breeding themselves etc ,,,,,,in ob,s they normaly cast their first flight after sitting about 12 days on their second round of eggs, then after theve cast about 5 flights will start a body moult i,e the reason that many national natural fliers mate their birds up a lot later than the sprint type ,as the sprint races are earlier in the year and the distance races later in the year ,, the reason w hood fliers only let their birds sit 8 to 10 days on second round , is to hold that first flight , this is one of the reasons that the w, hood fanciers can mate earlier , also light can induce the moult, dark can retard it , baths also can induce the moult to a certain extent and heating seeds i,e hemp induce the moult , just recently ive been advised to use buttermilk to induce the moult in, late [change of loft] darkness yb,s this seems to be working ,,,,but whatever system , pigeons must have a perfect moult if their to win the following year this is all very breifly, but hope it helps
  15. looks a real cracker of a loft best of luck to all organisers, fliers and pigeons
  16. very well done chrissy ,,great news :)
  17. if you paired your stock birds this sunday, you could have yb,s to ring for jan the 1st [if you had rings in scot your supposed to get your rings on jan 10th stock birds paired 28 nov would make ringing ,,,,,,any advantages ,,,,or just feeding the yb,s longer
  18. just told them ,, now youve got me my books ;D ;D ;D ;D
  19. just simply read under very first thread thread [pigeon related topics] please beleive me, im not trying to spoil any fun ,, in fact i like a good sense of humour very much myself [but your last post is out of order as you well know] so why persist , just simply post things in there right place and we can all have a laugh
  20. all the jokes ,,all the laughs are on the proper threads NOW, nobody stopping anyone from having a laugh [ read point two on codes of conduct] not one post has been deleted ,, just put on the proper thread ,,,,,,,because the main page on pigeons is becomming like a circus and not a pigeon forum [as many have complained to me ]
  21. great gadget in home base ,, £4 odds rentokill make it ,, its a plastic box with an in and an out [poison inside it ] lasts for ages , no way can pigeons or pets get at it
  22. please alf ,, can we just have pigeon related topics on main board ,, is that to much to ask for ,, theres a post for every thing on this forum , more than any other forum ,, chit chat ,,health etc etc ,, this is in no way personal , but its getting very UNLIKE a pigeon forum and more like a chat line

  24. b and q will cut 8 by 4 ply [better with the good stuff] to the sizes you want [i,e one 8 by 4 will cut in to 3 lengths 14 inches broad, near enough the size of a w hood front, all the cuttings can be used so you dont have to be an expert in d i y [beleive me ;D ;D ;D]
