  1. if i were you lawrie i would start with 14 yb ,s to that loft ,hoping for 12 to race. ,get a seasons experience , then take it from there ,,,, as previous posts suggest dampness is bad , especially in a small loft , best of luck to you
  2. well put chrissy ,, would maybe just add to that, that the cocks and hens are better for being seperated from each other [not seeing each other if poss] for a week or two b4 mating up. otherwise, you will have a bigger job on your hands just trying to change their mates

    pairing

this time of year give 14 days to lay, 18 days to hatch ,rung at 7 days ,,,but older birds that have been paired b4 should go down quicker than yearlings
  4. no 1, tip dont overcrowd then do the K.I.S.S system KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID ;D ;D ;D ;D
  5. never tried that,,,but you can get liquid flagyl [anyone comming home from spain will get this over the counter in any chemist , very cheap] " its flagyl suspension " remember , this is antibiotic
  6. agree with shadow,, if a jobs worth doing its worth doing right ,, i would do it with the proper white racer , properly trained you could do dove releases covering a good few miles ,, with less worry

    split quils

in my experience chrissy,, if this is done , the new flight grows a fraction shorter of the original one [dont get on to me chrissy, only my opinion ;D ;D ;D]

    help needed

sorry to here of your loss, racer ,, its very early days yet to decide on what method , but if its the celibate method ,, its really just a case of racing cocks and hens seperately ,,and keeping them seperate , only racing back to opposite sex , theres many variations , as in any system , but keeping it simple is the best

  10. hope you dont mind debbie ,,but put this on the health board,, there is a possibility this s a respiratory prob , sometimes in serious circumstances the vet will give antibiotics to clear this ,,, [but better under avian vet advice] ornithoses can show up in the birds head with eyes wattering wattles all bunged up ,finding it difficult to breath ,im not one usualy one to treat with antibiotics, but in certain circumstances , it can be a life saver , i would make sure youve plenty good ventilation, not too many birds and a dry loft , maybe a little milton in the water would stop any spread or even some tcp,, but would take a bird to the vet and get his advice ,, hope things improve debbie and good luck

  16. on the darkness system the birds have a full body moult , but dont cast their flights untill [well it all depends on the time you give them full daylight hours ,, but to make good yearlings these birds must have a second moult [quite unnatural really] but the point im making is this second moult is far later than ,natural y,bs and these flights have all to be cast and grown b4 pairing , i recently had birds that had been on the darkness system rather later than some , plus with a change of loft, worried that these birds would fully moult, a fellow forum member adviced using buttermilk in their water to speed up this second moult ,,,,,this works
