  1. good luck to you tariq ,, its just a shame crazy pigeon boy just missed it , what about giving c p b a half share in one of mine and a half share in one of teds
  2. i would say herbal is less dangerous,,,, but pharmaceutals can have benefits and downfalls , but all medicines will have their kick back or side effects ,, i suppose its weighing the odds of long term good effect or long term bad effects,,in saying that all doses of medicines for pigeons should be exact and really prescribed by a good avian vet would be good to hear members veiws on this one
  3. previous post
  4. this y bird was never raced after yb season, after a couple of minor positions in the club, and topping the fed unfortunately never really excelled in breeding ,,,, the nest mate to it , the other fancier got , did nothing as far as i know. these birds were de klack jansens [parents bought from the humberside stud]

  6. just seen this homer,, excellent article,, my brother is a keen canary breeder [interested in pigeons] im sure ill get this mag from him ,,,,,great stuff
  7. this blue pied hen was bred direct out of sir colin won £5000 when paired to lewis mitchell hen also won £5000 both these birds winning 10 times between them in races between [8 of these races scottish , national races] 505 miles and 604 miles , the hen is 8 years old and never raced
  8. just yesterday , my birds were left out too late, [my fault ,with visitors] i got them in, but two of them were spooked untill darkness, i put the light on in the loft and stood at the back door with the security lights on, but they were away in the distance , my only hope was that they had come down on a roof rather than lower down for fear of cats,, to my surprise i went to sainsbury,s about 2 miles away at 8pm saw the b pied flying in the light of the car park as if it was trapped in the light zone,, i come home hoping this bird had settled there...,at 9pm, with only a light in the loft , the bird landed on my roof , down to the loft and dropped in the sputnick ,,,never seen anything like it,, , this bird had came the two miles in the darkness [had the bird been flying since it got dark at about 4pm??]
  9. sorry just to hear that,, it does make one wonder ,, that life is valuable, and too short to waste r,i,p, phil o.donnel
  10. knew him as a kid ;D ;D ;D
  11. and off course duncan fergusan
  12. theres off course john lambie famous footballer, manager , player, trainer etc etc ill bet he remembers the great breeding pigeon" jimmy tarbuck" bred by alex timpany of ayrshire which bred john many winners a good while back
  13. i think i would rather take the chance and let them out :-/ in the thought of "possibly" loosing some,,, rather than later and possibly loose some of them then , as the ones that settle will get a certain amount of "streetwiseness" but im afraid percy gets his dinner when he wants to,, but at least they would become more sharper ,,,,it is a kinda catch 22 situation , so i would just go for it [but if percy did kill one id keep them in as he would be back ]
  14. i have voted for a few pairs,,,but really this can depend on the money you have , the space you have, the time you have and the energy you have if i were younger and had all these qualities , i would cetainly have voted for more stock birds but they would have to be the best of breeding throwing winning pigeons
  15. how soon after the race homer,?, i have given this hot bath regular on a sunday after the race and the birds won very well indeed :-/

  21. great to see this result ,, this race , which at first eveyone laughed at, at first , turned out to be one of the most successfull races going , well run, well attended and all taken in great sport ,,,good luck to all that entered [wouldnt mind counting up the cash peter mellvile has won in his entries for the times he has entered the race ;D ;D ;D] but it still left plenty for all ;D ;D ;D congrats to all
  22. i suppose nowadays theres much new technoligy in the management ,of pigeons, via cumputers etc, ,,,,but looking back on some of my old loft books of the late 50,s really did make me smile [and brought back great memories ,, of when pigeons werent just ring nos. even nowadays a book like this would be hard to beat ,,every training toss was on it ,,each one with an individual remark [some you couldnt print ;D]........... times of each bird if singled up ,, i,e wee heed 2 23[due to hatch frid ] the big pied 2 32 usless ;Dthe red cock usless ,,,,fancied that too,[wont give up on him yet] flapping about like he ruled the skies, all 8 back in 30 mins ,,,,,,,,,,,then there were daily notes,, like j wilsons cocks nestmate lost ,,,,,next day john wisons cocks nestmate come back , next day ,,put linolium on floor of loft ;D really funny to look at it [but every single detail was in that book ] every race wind lib estimated times estimated positions [usually i was wrong ;D] but the page written in red and big print ,,,penrith race lib9 am s e wind won race with wee pied all pools £7, 7s, 6pence ;D ;D ;D still have some of these books and beleive it or not , they are a mind of information,,,,,,,,,,differant today
  23. silly me, ;D allways thought a distance was a straight line from a. to b. when in fact ,, old chriss columbus ;D ;D ;D [deceased ;D] found out years ago that this was not the fact as the world is round , the true distances are actualy in an arc , which at 600 miles can make a differance ,,,,well your never to old to learn ;D [and admit it ;D]
  24. just shows you what you can do with a bit of thought, time, and effort [i was a great one for that, many years ago ;D] even now ,, when i pass this particular building, [demolished ] the heaps of good wood are unbeleivable ,, what a loft you could make yes, brilliant for that price ,, good luck to you
  25. I SHOULD IMAGINE AS THIS IS FOR A GOOD CAUSE THIS SHOULD BE OK,, GOOD LUCK WITH THE SALE STUART , SOME LOVELY BIRDS LETS HOPE AND PRAY MIKE RECOVERS FROM THIS DREADED DESEASE AND DOESNT SUFFER TOO MUCH
