  1. my father ,,, and charlie wooff
  2. i think these are the most difficult questions regarding good fanciers , there have been so many " greats" over the years [inc the ones on the poll] one of my great fliers and good freinds, are the wooff family , charlie, russel from new ollerton, and les from staindrop , darlington ,, these fanciers over decades have been top fed winners etc midland nat winners etc ,les won the louella car a few years ago , charlie and russel ,[well over 70 now,,,again top fed winners 2007, winning £8,800 ] least mentioned as they dont have books videos etc , just ordinary down to earth ,honest great pigeon men ,,,to me join they ranks of the" greats"
  3. to allow jason a full payout 40 birds £200 i will purchase a trophie to the value of £40 for jason to present to the winner and send a token to pigeon basics for adverising the race ,, this should be an exellent thread when the ybs start , and off course jason will keep us up to date on the pigeons , so good luck to jason he has a lot of hard work in front of him lets all hope its a great success
  4. plus protein is needed for the growing yb and to the adults feeding the growing ybs, the pigeons will tell you this themselves by throwing the maize aside and eating the peas etc [the proteins] they know what to eat naturaly when needed , but what is not natural is sending pigeons long distances , they dont know their going to be sent , so we have to feed them for that
  5. my thoughts on this are proteins and carboheydrates are both essential to pigeons ,, all depends on their work load i doubt if you would win a 600 mile race feeding just maize, at the same time you wouldnt win a 60 mile race feeding just peanuts, so its all about balance and the right type of feeding for the race in question
  6. i agree with your post roland i also beleive that ferals will do as you say, and for the reason you say, [ my own thoughts are that this goes back to the rock dove [which of course our modern day racer originated from]where the birds mostly lived in caves ,rocks etc, nature made so many of them disperse to make other coloneys , therefore cut out close inbreeding etc ,, no i agree with much of what you have said ,, but was just not getting the picture of the boxes , are these 12 in sq boxes built outside ? and the wire mesh aviary attached , i couldnt picture what you were meaning in your first post

    mites

could guess they could be young red mite as they are clear to begin with,, its when they feed on the birds blood they turn red [often yb,s in the nest are the worst effected ] but could be any type of mite , obviosly from the straw which i would get rid of ,,,,but i was told by a top flying fancier to put a third of a bottle of duromitex in a bucket of warm water and dip the birds in it [not their heads] i have did this with my yb,s and never saw a mite or a lice on them all season [also sprayed loft] it didnt do them any harm in the long run
  8. after trying a few one loft races would tend to agree with harky,,, the best one loft race for regular info updates etc is our forum member chatraces [u.s.a] one loft race [but theres a waiting list] but he really does a marvelous job
  9. im not quite with you on this one roland :-/ [maybe its me a bit thick ;D dont answer that ;D] but maybe explain in more detail , would be interesting to see your idea
  10. at first i wondered how the latex would" breath" but looking closer at the pic on the advert, i see the holes on the bottom fitting the nest pan,,, they sound quite good especialy the "able to wash" bit
  11. heres wishing all forum members a very happy, enjoyable and healthy new year
  12. some time ago a very goodfreind of mine [now deceased] flew natural most of his life racing pigeons, after a transporter fire he was left with 11 cocks and 5 hens [ this was b4 w,hood really took off] but these 11 cocks were let out at the crack of dawn each morning left with an open loft all day long then got in about 6pm and a shutter put down so they were more or less in the dark ,,the hens were kept in a seperate small loft with his yb,s [the cocks couldnt see in ] he kept them in on basketing day putting the 5 hens in just b4 going to the club , he never trained them ,yet had a great season in fed and club ,,a bit unorthodox but prooved the old adage," theres many ways to skin a cat" best of luck to you

  18. with due respect ,,,,,how do you know ; :)
  19. maybe just a thought ,, but wondered if forum members would be worth starting a dvd exchange in answer to the first post , brand new ones can be bought at blackpool ,, then theres e,bay and our own" for sale items"
  20. in my opinion a single reared yb grows faster than it should ,,nature didnt intend this , may sound daft but my opinion ,, a pair of healthy constitutional pigeons , looked after properly should be able to rear two perfect ybs, if not , there is something wrong with the management,or something wrong with the pigeon pair, be it constitutional or otherwise if nature says there should be two , there will be many natural reasons for this,,,,,but, our pigeons are domesticated and need every aid possible i.e nourishment, clean air, etc etc.
  21. i agree with you pigeon scout ,, but the money part i was on about , is that if you have two pairs of proven breeding stock , someone else would have the same, and again somebody , these birds are very rare and would cost a fortune ,,,,,,,,,but money would buy them , these are in fact more valuable than the actual racing pigeon
  22. i dont know crazy pigeon boy, but if he was genuine in buying a ring and just missed it , i would go along with bewted and try and show a little sportsmanship and try and keep all pleased if i was on top of the leaderboard after the first 4 races ;D ;D ;D i would be sitting with you cheering my ring on ;D ;D ;D good luck to all involved and good luck to you jason
  23. must give you this one,,,,very true
  24. iwould think you would have to get permission from the counsel [i should imagine but all mess would be quickly cleared up by a decent working team of fanciers ,,,,which would show them how sporting we are and the more the merrier ;D
