  1. meally hen came in last thing at night , fed and watered ,in box in house [central heating and all ;D] shall release it in the morning if weathers ok or, if i havent heard on forum
  2. b4 any training [tossing] make sure their fully basket trained , i consider , very important ,, when the yb,s are ranging their ready to train,,,,,but remember when you start training them,, they stop flying round the loft as much, and will stop ranging if theve been ranging well and basket trained well , they should be ok at roughly about 15 miles to begin with
  3. put them on the photo page, where you can add to the pics if you want too. cerainly lovely looking yb,s good luck with them
  4. {MOVED-MESSAGE-PLACEHOLDER}
  5. theres also chatrace ,, who runs a one loft race, and redrose lofts , probably more
  6. you can usualy tell by their behaviour in the time they are paired , at first theyll bill and coo, then a bit more serious driving the hen to nest if you see this they should lay in about 10 days if in good nick. i would agree with most of the posts above , but when you do put them together, make sure you do everything to encourage them i,e, nest pans ,maybe a handfull of shavings in them , twigs for them to lift [tobacco stalks best , but other twigs can be used ,,,best of luck,,
  7. thats absolutely great ,, good on you cloud veiw,,it would be nice to hear in the future , that the birds have did well ,,good luck to you and cloudveiw

    wanted ybs

as i say damian these few birds are just paired, so hopefully have some young hatching in just over 4 weeks , so contact me then and we can see what we can arrange
  9. ive allways advocated that in the ratio of female fanciers to male fanciers ,,,,wait for it ;D ;D ;D the females are far better fanciers , a good keen female fancier seems to have a way with pigeons , patience , common sense ,,etc etc well done susan , two cracking results bet i suffer for that ;D ;D ;D but its true ;D ;D ;D
  10. sorry to hear of your latebred sammy , i can really understand how maddening this is
  11. my thoughts are,, yes it is nature ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,but only to a certain extent ????? is it nature for a perigrine or any other hawk to get the rspb tp build them a nest box, release a few pairs here and there, and know quite well" no one can touch them",,,,,,,,,,no, ,this is not nature, this is the rspb playing god . in my opinion this needs broadcasting , and make the public aware EXCACTLY whats happening to our song birds etc, as its very obvious [around here anyway ] that there are very few songbirds in a place which used to be a haven for them,,,,,see the nature reserve pics on the hawks topic , thats next to me ,,,,not a bird to be seen ???
  12. ;D ;D i think thats actually the right answer, ;D,,,",stress" , so think of the stress they continually go through in a transporter or trainer wagon ,,, i think they need a break sometimes
  13. why does a pigeon , that has a full crop ,, allways spew this up in the basket ,,even just traveling round the block ,with the basket in the boot of the car.??? :-/

    wanted ybs

why get the rings from e bay damian,, better from the union , registered in your name . i have some birds just paired if you want you can have at least a pair ,probably 4
  15. david ,,look at him now ;D hes asking for a hen ;D [as above posts , you can shake the eggs or put dummies under them , hell be far more contented and happy and sure to stay just the last bit of a great job ,, a small shed and a hen good luck
  16. basicly this is right ,in my opinion ,,, it is said that pigeons dont produce vit c ,,,,,,but they manufacture it as they need it , so a well balanced diet helps a pigeon" manufactor" vit c,,,,as it needs it and when it needs it , i beleive what shadow is saying, as i worked with vydex at blackpool and many other shows, the fortune they were making from magic potions was quite unbeleivable but the packaging and the adverising made it look like you couldnt loose , if everyone in your club used these wonderfull magic potions ,there would still only be one winner ??? :)
  17. a massive question,,, depending on a lot of circumstances , old birds getting hammered in tossing in bad weather actualy slow up and just home,, birds being tossed will fly less at home , but birds need to be fit and fresh to win races so i think this is what we need to strive for [fitness and freshness] with old birds i dont think its the miles you toss them its the time their flying that makes them fit , a bird flying 60 miles in cold east winds will take more out of itself than the same bird flying 150 miles with the temperature up and the wind warmer , so for me i would rather see the birds excercising well at home untill the warmer weather, then with a couple of 20 mile tosses , they should find it easy to do the 150 miles , then still fly well at home , really my thoughts are that the o,b racing is far too early [yb,s different alltogether , your training their minds as well as making them fit]
  18. i would endorse this david , but must say what a grand job you have done , you should be well proud of yourself , but a wee shed and a hen ,they will settle better and be far more contented,,,,,,,best of luck
  19. you wont get much better than those alf , you sound dead keen to score at the distance so with keenness and jock reids , jackie bunches lines ,lets hope you get a good one ,,,,,,a good 2 or 3 year old [the auld heid for the hard road ] this maybe just your year , best of luck anyway
  20. have tried this stu but no luck, yet i know it will be back [the birds are as nervous as anything at the mo ,allthough ive done everything poss to quieten them, keep them tame [,as they were ] and settle them . i kept them in for a few days ,spent hours in the loft, handling them gently, feeding from my hand etc , but letting them out their as jumpy as anything and i feel i must be there at all times [theve got my nerves going too ]
  21. this is getting really bad now, at my place im seeing the perigrine every day, the buzzards hovering above ,sometimes in groups of 6 [i know these wont kill the pigeons , but the state the birds are in after that kill , their nervous of a blackbird ],,, and the sparrowhawk whizzing in from nowhere just a few years ago , you wouldnt see anything like that here , so what the heck does the future hold if something cant be done ??? i find it amazing that a three week old yb can cock its eye and head to the side and know that its hawk = danger, then fly straight in the loft like a shot
  22. absolutely brilliant , maybe he could befriend "wee gez "on the forum via pm ,, wee gez is 10 years old and just joined the forum ,,,,,,,,,,his fav birds are" dash" "b.j " and" lucky" [the one he saved from the hawk] best of luck anthony
  23. well done paulo,,, great feeling aint it congrats.
  24. les [who had to pack in pigeons due to serious health probs ,,,,,,,,his wife looked after les and the birds for long enough , hard going for her ,,,desrves a medal :)but les , is as keen as ever , had pigeons a very long time and was truly amazed at the site , he wished he had a computer and on pigeon basics when he was really ill and couldnt get out , but now hes on the mend and hes keen to do so now . hes a really decent chap and a very good pigeon fancier,,,,,,,,,,,he thanks all the pb members for a great forum and hopes to be on it soon
