youll probably find most of these birds are yearlings , they can be a real pest , but will settle down eventually
  2. i wonder how many will carry on making the same mistake year after year , in training birds far to early in cold east winds , a few trainers in these and the birds are finished for the season then we have the darkness system , this system must be adhered to properly, none of this forgetting to put the blinds down that night , then left later another night, this system has to be done right or not at all, as it will just upset the birds moult ,,,just my opinion and observation of some fanciers
  3. i often hear the talk of ,,how have my pigeons got cocci, how have my pigeons got canker , how do they have worms etc, my loft is cleaned twice a day and is dry and air??? i feel a lot of fanciers forget about the outside of their lofts , many of which are a haven for all these things, so while your keeping your loft clean ,, why not go round the outside with a watering can and give it a good dousing with virkon s or the likes , i get a half gall of disenfectant from the horsey shop , for sweeping down the horses yard etc ,,,,birds will allways pick here and there , but at least it helps cut down any nasties outside the front of the loft
  4. so sorry sue, irene passed away at the age of 45 , never to be forgotten
  5. paired two nestmates up by mistake [both had scored ] one was borrowed for breeding ,, untill we seen pedigree , they were nest mates , yb,s off these did well
  6. without having to check up, anyone know how much water their flying over

  8. i havent a clue, but maybe the webmaster could put us wise
  9. in my opinion , to do this job, would take an exceptionaly learned mind , a pigeon fancier, a youngish chap with a very shrewed and a fast thinker totally dedicated to the job , not to say stu willcox would not fit the bill
  10. i have lost a few birds with my phone no taped on to its ring ,,,,one i got back ,,,seems folks are just not interested nowadays
  11. this is usualy lack of nesting materials, and usually single reared yb,, i have in the past , when first noticing this, placed the yb in a narrow cardboard box where its legs are kept in, for a few days or up to a week
  12. the last time i seen anythinglike that , was an overdose of the antibiotic tiamutin , i would def advice a pm on these birds
  13. its difficult to say without seeing the bird but a post mortem would ease your mind in finding out why this bird died, i have often found with crop problems is to dilute milton as it says on the bottle,[even a little stronger] is use a syringe [without the needle ] fill the crop absolutely full, turn the bird upside down and squeese it all out [in other words bathe the birds crop with milton] do this a few times , this will kill any imediate bacteria in the crop ,,,,,,,,,,,,in saying this i think your problem lies further than the crop , only a pm would be able to tell you more , sorry you lost your bird
  14. pic been in my possesion for years now, cant think where it came from and dont recognise anyone , been bugging me wondered what become of these people , especially young master B LEEDER. 16. near enough my answer ,, but cant understand why you cant hold the egg up to the light
  17. out of 20 pairs i would find it difficult to beleive all pedigrees and performances are the same ,, but if i was looking for good distance birds , i would look for the ones that scored in the lowest velocity races
  18. had a visitor today with the same complaint , i couldnt pin point his prob without seeing loft birds etc, but something drasticly wrong , anyway breeding him some ybs after hes had a droppings test
  19. circovirus,, the cause of lethargy , gastrointestinal signs and poor racing performance in young birds remembering young bird sickness[we only call it that] is not a recognised desease , it could be a multiple of things , usually followed by secondry infection , but the question i think vic is getting at,, did we have all this b4 we started vaccinating for paramyxo ,, i dont think so

    two cocks

anytime ive had same sex pairing [mostly hens] ive found theve raced very well, i think it makes them keener as their both trying to take their same shift on their eggs and will try and nudge the other off but it def. makes them keen

    Question

my thoughts are that the garlic will do more good than harm ,, cider vinegar now and again will also do them no harm,, the buttermilk, ive used for the first time last year , i had bought pigeons that had been kept on the darkness quite late , i was told to use buttermilk to try and get them through the moult ,,,,,,,,,,,it worked
  22. you get the young lad stuck in coey his interest will probably wax and wain over the years,, but the seed will be planted :)good luck to you for encouraging him , and good luck to the young lad it will be nice to see some pics , that,ll encourage him in itself
  23. tameness causes birds less stress ,, the more stress you can keep to a minimum the better
  24. meally cock su 63 ....28228 scored 9 times over 500 miles [scoring at 9 years old also winning club race from 84 miles at 9 years old ] it had a prize ticket from every race ,,, the year b4 my father died [it hadnt been 500 miles] it won the chtistchurch race approx 360 miles ,, all that winter my father harped on and on about this bird to get it over the water [channel] unfortunately my father died in the march , i hadnt joined the national ,, but got the bird away with the east of scot continental clubto avaracches [approx 3,000 birds ] he was 4th open winning £98.... 2 shillings and 9 pence :)old money,,,,,how i wish my father could have seen that
  25. you must be patient gladdo ,, some fanciers distance pigeons dont get paired till april ,, ive promised out about 40 yb,s ,,[ this actualy becomes a bit of a worry ] gangster gave me 7 of your rings ] i will be able to ring you 4 yb,s for racing and 3 later for stock,,,or racing next year , but i do wish you well , but with pigeons youll find that patience is a virtue ;
